Today I want to share some thoughts on imposter syndrome.

Even after more than 20 years of presenting to large groups, I still get those nerves creeping in. For a long time, I carried the belief that I wasn’t good enough. What we now recognize as imposter syndrome.

But here’s the thing: those doubts don’t define us. They’re just thoughts, not truth. Over time, I’ve learnt that every time I choose to back myself instead of listening to that inner critic, I grow stronger. And you can too.

💬 Remember, your mental health journey is built one choice at a time — every time you challenge those voices, you’re showing courage.

Thank you to all the organisations, teams and individuals that have supported Kereama Consulting in 2023.
I have to say that the favourite part of my work for 2023 was sitting with our young people 13-25 and hearing their stories. Many of those I talked with lack confidence and resilience which feeds their sense of self worth. This can lead to anxiety and depression. Yep, we can blame technology, parenting styles, impatience and work environment (wheres my bean bag?), but we all have to dig deep and talk this generation up.

I met some young superstar apprentices in the Trades last year. Future leaders in their chosen trades. 👊 Keep an eye out for my generational talks this year

I’ve had a couple of hiccups with public speaking recently, which really dented my confidence. I decided the best way to deal with it was to get some coaching and throw mysel back into it. I’m pleased to say that at two recent events, I nailed it and am feeling so much better. Sometimes you just need to get back up on the horse and get that failure monkey off your back! ’Failing to prepare is preparing to fail’ 😳

Starting Kereama Consulting Ltd four years ago was scary leaving the safety net of fulltime employment. One of my first pieces of work was building the ‘Wellbeing on Tap’ in partnership with Masterplumber. Over the last fours I have had the privilege of being ‘The Wellbeing Guy’ for 1000+ business owners, staff and their families and 350 plumbing apprentices. We did take home the bacon 😄 The Kelmar Mental Health & Wellbeing Award.

Had the huge privilege of presenting to the combined trades Master Plumbers, Master Builders Association and Master Electricians New Zealand in the Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

It was great to have so many people in one room to talk about all things Well-being and have some great laughs with Mike King.
