Here's an activity we've made to make that end of year kōrero even easier 💛

Reflecting together helps tamariki recognise how they have grown as friends and teammates. Noticing moments of kindness, connection, and support builds confidence, belonging, and pride. As the year ends, it is a chance to pause, notice the challenges and the laughter, and celebrate how far they have come. Tamariki see that their effort and care for each other helped create a safe and supportive class community.

Week 5 can feel like a bit of an effort. There are tired eyes, big emotions, and classrooms that need a little extra spark.

Sometimes the best reset is the simplest one: a bit of movement, a breath of fresh air, a laugh shared together. Whether it’s heading outside, dancing to a waiata, or guessing emotions in a silly game, it’s all about reconnecting with each other and te taiao.

You’re doing such important mahi, even when it feels like a lot. We see the care, the patience, the small moments that make the biggest difference.

Taking learning outside is a good reminder to slow down and notice what really matters. Breathing fresh air. Listening to the manu. Watching tamariki explore and find calm in te taiao.

We’re also thinking of the teachers striking on Thursday. It takes a lot to keep showing up for tamariki despite needing better pay and working conditions. We see you, we appreciate you, and we stand with you 💚

Kia ora! It’s the first week back, and we know it can take a bit to feel grounded again. We’ve teamed up with Real Parents to share this poster that you can use for yourself, with your tamariki, or with whānau.

These grounding ideas aren’t just meaningful for tamariki. They can make a big difference for kaiako too. When things get busy or the term feels full, taking a few calm moments can help you reset and bring your focus back.

You might like to keep this handout somewhere visible, like on your desk, in the staffroom, or near your classroom resources, as a reminder that calm starts with us. It’s not always easy to stay grounded when the day feels full on, but these simple tools can help you slow down and find your balance again.

When teachers take time to regulate and show calm, tamariki notice. It helps them feel safer and more settled, and teaches them positive ways to manage their own emotions. Whānau also benefit when these approaches are shared at home. They can use the same ideas to support calm moments and create consistent routines that help tamariki feel secure and connected.

Kia ora kaiako! 👋

We've put together some simple, meaningful resources you can use in your classroom for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. This week, we’re celebrating te reo in fun, everyday ways while supporting tamariki wellbeing.

Here’s what you can try:

Kupu List Worksheets – collect and revisit new words all week

Upoko, Pakihiwi (Head, Shoulders) – a waiata to get moving and lift moods

My Pepeha template & mindful colouring – easy ways to bring whakapapa and te reo into class time

The days are getting brighter, and it feels like a great time to reset and embrace new energy. We’ve gathered some classroom activities that help tamariki feel calm, connected, and hopeful for the future.

From colouring to relax, to making gratitude cards for someone special, to setting goals with their own ara (path), these moments of reflection can make a big difference. It’s about creating space to pause, notice the good, and move forward with positivity🌟
