A friend messaged me the other day wondering if she should wean her 21 month old son. " She said "He is eating enough solids and we just really use feeding as a pacifier and to get him to sleep. A lot of people are saying I should wean him as he doesn’t need the nourishment anymore. How do I do this?”
I messaged back saying she had the wrong person if she thought I would help wean.
Both my boys did self wean at age 2 and I’m not sure why but it was seamless.
Maybe it could be that I fed them without putting timers on and I fed them to sleep and when they were hurt and generally whenever they wanted.
Perhaps it’s because I was an older mum or the books I had read while pregnant but I felt strongly that this time is the most precious thing. The connection when breastfeeding is second to none and it flies by so quickly.
What better way to show your absolute love and care for someone than giving from your body like that?
So many mums worry about this stage, should I wean/shouldn’t I?
If it’s working well for you and baby then there is your answer, if you realise how fast this time goes (I know everyone says this, but it’s for good reason!) then I suggest you soak up every glorious moment of it.
