What a 2 weeks it’s been!

We hit the road with my husband Gerard Gibb playing the role of brilliant tour director and driver!

I visited and offered hints and tips at 25 of the aged care facilities under the care of her company Hercules Health.

We saw a vast range of providers from the very high end to community run providers - all working hard to look after New Zealanders in thier care. Every one of them different!

From Tauranga to Hamilton up to Whangarei, Kaikohe, Hokianga, Orewa, Auckland, over to the Coromandel, Ohope, Ōpōtiki, Gisborne, The East Cape, Wairoa, Napier, Palmerston North, Feilding and today we fly out of Wellington after 2600 kms and loads of laughs and new experiences.

The common themes were of connection, collaboration, and increasing complexity of service needs on a tight budget.

I'm looking forward to being back in the office in the coming week in the run up to the New Zealand Aged Care Association - ACA annual conference in Christchurch.

Day two of my North Island roadie to visit clients. This time it was a smaller community trust-operated service River View Living in Mungataroto, north of Auckland. We are delighted to have them as a Hercules Health client as they transition from paper-based systems to take up a new way of documenting their service through our digital systems.

They said "we knew we had to move to aged care software, and once we visited another of Hercules Health clients that had transitioned from paper, this choice was a 'no-brainer'. We very much look forward to supporting them through this journey and into the future.

Coming to you today from Pacific Coast Village in Papamoa, Tauranga. The exquisite gardens are beautifully manicured. Well done to the gardening team for creating such a lovely setting!

A number of people moving into residential care and retirement villages, have often left gardens behind that they have tended to for years but simply can't do anymore. Hopefully the beauty in these gardens reduce some of that sense of loss.

Writing your own policies and procedures, maintaining them and keeping document control on track is time-consuming and requires specialist skills.

Aged Care is a specialist area of healthcare and deserves the best up-to-date, evidence-based policies and procedures and tools to guide teams in providing care. Taking the burden of this work and providing pre-approved content, ready to use, is what we have been perfecting over the past 30 years. We've had several clients comment on savings to them including one provider, who has under 40 beds, say they were able to save the full-time salary of a Registered Nurse from this role. That's a saving of nearly $100,000! Registered Nurse time is far better spent nursing, not doing paperwork such as policy writing and management!
