EPC consultancy have been travelling for 12 months now helping facilities complete interai and care plans for 8 organisations that were at risk of failing certification audit .
We got every facility up to date and some a month in front with their assessment and care planning leaving them in a strong position moving forward .

We completed a total of 200 assessments in 6 months !!

This has been tiring - a mammoth task to complete on my own but I can’t stress enough the joy I’ve felt from helping organisations get on top/ relieving stress - and leaving systems in a great place .

I’ve met amazing and dedicated staff that blow my mind- amazing residents - laughed and cried with them - wiped away the tears and listened to their stories.

It’s now time to return to Christchurch where I will be taking the role of head of clinical services at Lady Wigram Village on the 22nd May.

Eagle precision is not closed - however it will be focused on the leaders support group we commenced in March and evolving using that focus.

We currently have 25 organisations registered with us - and are working on a new logo name and group purpose to fit all your needs.Yhe group is free of charge .

We have some great ideas moving forwards that our group have helped to develop so watch this space for more news ! This will include increased coverage from Canterbury and free recourses and specialised education days for RNs & managers . We will be developing terms of reference and shortly that will be emailed to all members.

Our group is a safe space - this can’t be stressed enough ! you are able to vent frustration - take part in networking and discussion with like minded health professionals and to share ideas free from the politics of work.

There is of course plenty of cake provided !

I look forward to co chairing the group with the amazing Gillian Robinson from HCSL and others that have expressed interest in taking a more pro- active role. We have the experience and expertise from palliative care specialists and nurse leaders from around the country to utilise.

Please register your interest by emailing me at
Epcconsultancynz@gmail.com to be added to our meeting invites / agendas / free newsletters, webinars and videos.

Our next meeting will be at HCSL head office and a date and time will be sent soon for around the 1/2nd week in June.

Nga mihi nui
With best wishes
Kat

This is somber reading in relation to hiring overseas nurses - NZ is just not attractive to nurses anymore - and we are not meeting international competition incentives from countries such as Australia and Canada !

Nearly a million dollars has been spent on a disasterous recruitment campaign resulting in only 32 nurses being hired ?

We should be shifting the focus elsewhere and ploughing money into building and retaining our own workforce as they continue to leave in droves !

Quite simply / nothing has changed !

https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/131240062/three-international-campaigns-to-recruit-nurses-sees-just-32-staff-hired?fbclid=IwAR3M0UTU5qquT581EJlMBjhdIlku-9AtCqv2maB5lfzGmeEXku6uZ03L-9E&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

A series of campaigns that cost almost $600,000 in media placements alone has seen just a handful of new nurses hired - enough to plug 1% of nursing vacancies.

We are heading to Ashburton this coming week and look forward to catching up with an existing client to help complete their 6 monthly interRai assessments .

Our interRai and care planning catch up service is fully supported by InterRai , and the process is quick and easy !

We gain acess to your facility assessments, come in and use our fine tuned process to get your assessments completed quickly and efficiently!

Eagle precision are quality compliance experts, helping facilities when they need a hand the most 🤚

Our Google reviews speak for themselves and we are proud and excited to be growing our small team as our client base expands.

From mid April 2023 we will be providing a new service where you can hire a senior RN consultant to bring stability to your facility where there is no acting clinical manager present.

This service is invaluable - as you are not tied to any long contracts, can get senior help when the going gets tough , and support your RN team when they need help the most .

We work on updating your clinical compliance requirements giving you the breathing space to recruit permanently, ensuring your important clinical requirements keep ticking along.

Our staff are also fully qualified in health safety and risk management- and we can provide important Heath Safety and Wellbeing services including health safety and risk management training for aged care providers, medical gas and gas safety training - and staff well-being presentations.

Give us a no obligation call 📞 and let us chat 💬 with you about how we can help!

Helping teams while they help others is what we do best !

I’m sat awake at stupid o clock after a long day at work last night … still thinking 🤔 hot chocolate to try and get to sleep 💤

I just wanted to share my thoughts, my thoughts on the thoughts of our elderly population!

You see my role means I get to write about the lives of our elders - write about what they love - what they don’t like so much - what they value and what they wish they had done in their lifetime - I find this fascinating and I’m in such a privileged position to be able to sit down and have these amazing conversations with them .

Here is what I have learnt so far- please take heed - life is to short not to smell the roses 🌹 and walk in the sunshine ☀️

Common themes - the following comments come up so often !

I wish I had followed my dreams …it’s too late for me now!
I regret not taking that risk
I get sad when my family and grandchildren don’t visit me
I don’t get phone calls or visitors - they are too busy
I see my daughter but not my sons
My friends don’t visit me since I came in here
I feel lonely sometimes
I don’t want to burden anyone so I don’t ask for help
I wish I could be 18 again
I love walking in the garden/ smelling the flowers and soaking up the sun ☀️
Flowers make my soul sing
I’m too old to have any goals in life I’ll soon be gone
I like sitting with my friends in their rooms and chatting over a cuppa
I miss my old life !

I thought about these common comments
today - are we really too busy to pop in and see the people that brought us into the world ? Could we do more ?
Do we want to end up thinking we could have done more with our lives ! We are the next generation of older people !
Food for thought !
Live life for today - take risks - feel the sunshine - connect with loved ones 🌸🙌

💭 of the day …

It’s true that a salary increase can make a person joyful - well for a moment or two at least !

The current nursing shortage means that RNs can now ask for high rates of pay ( and rightly so) but is it becoming too much and to often ?

The competition with our registered nurses and constant pay hikes means smaller operators cannot compete !

Or can they ?

I truely belive that building a proactive , happy and safe nurturing environment for your staff means more than any pay rise .
Being happy at work and feeling valued cannot be underestimated!

I once worked for a private healthcare organisation as a surgical post op nurse and took a massive pay decrease for the role.
What I did get was a wonderful happy hardworking team that I’ll remember for the rest of my life - a manager that pulled all the stops to unite us and feel like family , and an organisation that rewarded their staff and celebrated success !

I feel these pivotal aspects are what’s missing in our new post Covid world.

The power of a healthy and happy work environment cannot be underestimated 💭let’s go back to create great healthy Heathcare environments ❤️

Happy new year !
Eagle 🦅 precision consultancy is back from the Uk and raring to go! Let’s make 2023 a year of kindness positivity and change.

On a private note- I had the rare opportunity of seeing my Uk family after 4.5 years- it was fantastic.
Spending quality time with loved ones cannot be under estimated and it’s so important to connect with those you love whenever possible for your own mental well being.

The trip to my mother land was a real eye opener / especially seeing the state of the NHS and the current strains the UK health sector is under. there are strikes everywhere- from rail - transport to paramedics and nurses.
The government refuses to engage in any meaningful talks and this is soul destroying for them. Many of my ex colleagues are wrapped up in the bureaucracy.

I feel that although NZ faces it’s own unique challenges we are in a more positive position now with the government who are finally engaging with us and slowly listening. This sets us in good stead moving forward compared to other places in the world.

We have some great services to offer your aged care facilities this year so keep watching and I will outline our exciting new products in a seperate post !

Take care all
See you all soon

Finally some positive news on nurse migration- we now need to make it as welcoming as possible for overseas nurses that are transitioning into our amazing country 🥰❤️

After months of pressure, the Government has moved more professions onto the immigration green list to ease worker shortages.
