Please stop normalising breastfeeding pain. ✋

I am so sick of the rhetoric that bleeding nips and pain are just a rite of passage when it comes to breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding should not hurt! A sensation yes and initially that sensation can feel intense I don’t deny that but pain is a step to far a damage is 10 steps too far.

Sometimes it’s a minor tweak and sometimes is a bit more but there is always a reason why it’s painful. Sometimes please if it’s painful get some help don’t just accept it! ❤️

You NEED to know this.

While colostrum harvesting is a useful tool, if that colostrum is used without additional stimulation it can be detrimental to establishing your milk supply.

Now I know this sounds dramatic but I have seen it happen many times over.

The simple rule of thumb you need to understand for your whole breastfeeding journey, if your baby didn’t get it direct your body doesn’t know it needs to replace it!

So if you give your baby milk (even expressed breastmilk) via a bottle, syringe, tube, cup then you need to express to replace it.

The volumes might not exactly match up but that’s ok it’s about stimulation and telling your body that your baby had milk.

Save this one to remember because it’s super important!

Unpopular opinion? But those new parents don’t owe you a visit to their newborn bubble🚫👶

It sounds harsh, but it’s one of my top rules when visiting a new family. If they want you to hold the little one, they will offer. Otherwise, your hands are better used washing dishes, holding a cup of tea for mum, or dropping off a meal.

I visit new babies regularly for my job, but even when it’s a close friend, I stick to a strict code of conduct to keep everyone happy, safe, and supported.

It’s all about respecting the new parents boundaries and their precious new born bubble. And doing what you can to support this new little family. Those newborn visits are a privilege not a right - even if you are family. Swipe to see my non-negotiables ➡️

Mummas, what was the one thing a visitor did that you appreciated the most? Let me know below! 👇

Waaaaaay less than you think. 🤯

This is one of the most crucial things new parents can understand:

🍒Day 1: Their stomach is about the size of a cherry (5-7 mL).
🌰Day 3: It grows to the size of a walnut (22-27 mL).
🍑1 Week: It’s roughly the size of an apricot (45-60 mL).

That tiny size is exactly why small, frequent feeds are absolutely perfect in the early days. 1. To help support your babies growth and 2. To support you building a robust milk supply. ❤️

Tired of feeling like a contortionist during feeds? You’re not alone! As a lactation consultant and mum, I know the real secret to a sustained breastfeeding journey isn’t finding one perfect hold, it’s having a flexible toolkit!

My personal favourites are the deeply restorative Reclined (Laid-Back) and Side-Lying positions (absolute lifesavers for postpartum recovery and maximising much-needed rest!). They harness gravity for a naturally deeper latch and more comfortable feeds.

However, to feel truly confident feeding in public, every mother should master a secure seated hold, like the Cradle or Cross-Cradle. They are the powerhouses for on-the-go discretion!

SWIPE to see your photo reference guide.

Which of these positions are you currently relying on, or which hold presents the biggest challenge right now?

Let me know in the comments! I’ll share some advanced tips and troubleshooting on the most requested position in a follow-up post. 👇

The New Parent Hack That Will Save Your Sanity (And Your Time!)

If you have a healthy, full-term baby, stop spending precious hours sterilising all those pump parts and bottles. Get that time back.

For healthy, full-term infants, thorough cleaning in hot, soapy water is enough for good hygiene of your breast pump parts and breastmilk bottles.

That means you can ditch the daily sterilising and focus on a thorough wash.

🔥 BONUS TIME-SAVER: THE FRIDGE HACK

Want to push the time savings even further? Many parents use the “Fridge Hack” to store pump parts in the fridge between pumping sessions, only washing them thoroughly once per day. It’s a game-changer!

Want to know more about safe breastmilk storage times (including the Fridge Hack) and the best cleaning routines?
