It has been 21 years since Pulse Pilates opened. In that time, I've had the absolute pleasure and privilege to be a tiny part of people's lives. Births, deaths, engagements, marriages, children going to school, finishing school, injuries, pain, heartbreak - it's all been there.
I was a newly graduated 21 year old when Pulse Pilates opened. No one really knew what Pilates was! Pilates has been a gift to my life, and an absolute pleasure to be a part of so many of yours.

With the start of my brand prehab, the Pulse Pilates name will cease to exist. It's quite sad to say goodbye to a name that has meant so much to me for such a long time. BUT! Nothing is actually changing.

Prehab will cover all of the parts of my business,:
* Chronic pain coaching
* Movement Education, including clinical Pilates
* Dancer wellness, including Dance Pilates, Pre-pointe assessments and Anatomy Education.
All under one umbrella.

This page will eventually close, so I would love it if you would follow my new page.

My new website has also launched today:

Persian poet Rumi wrote this in the 13th century.

His poem suggests that pain can reveal what is important and help us cherish it. It also conveys that suffering can be a purifying fire that strengthens us.

We all go through tough and difficult times, battling through life physically, mentally, and emotionally against all that is thrown at us.

The experiences can painfully wound us. These wounds, even once healed and scars are formed, can be a reminder of unhappy times. We can, however, choose to see that these wounds are far from ugly, but rather beautiful.

Even through difficult times, there are positive experiences - there is light, as Rumi says.
Often, these battles make us stronger, more patient, and give us the opportunity to reflect.

If someone had mentioned to me a year ago that my pain could be viewed as a gift, I would have probably punched them in the face! With the benefit of time and healing, I am now thankful for the experiences I've had. I think it helps when working with chronic pain patients that I've been there. And I certainly would have not ended up on this road without the pain.

This is healing.
Three months ago, I wouldn't have contemplated this hike. 5km. Uphill. Walking.
Was it easy? No. It took a lot of convincing my brain that it was going to be ok. I didn't need my brain to tell me I was in danger. I wasn't in danger. And more importantly, if I did feel some pain, it would be okay because I KNEW my pain was neuroplastic in nature and would go away.

No pain. A walk with family, listening to little nieces giggle with my daughter. Sunshine. Connection.

My pain wasn't perfect the next day, but just acknowledging that I'd done some exercise, nothing dangerous, was enough to make it stop.

Neuroplasticity is a miracle.
If the brain can learn pain, it can unlearn pain.

What is Prehab?
Prehab has been born out of a personal journey.
It is movement education.
It is support while you rehabilitate from injury.

It is accessing our breath in restorative practice.

It is someone who will listen to your story.
Hold your hand. Guide you.

It is education of how chronic pain develops and what to do about it.

It is a deep understanding of chronic pain and the way it affects every facet of your life.

It is someone who understands that all pain is real and it's 'not in your head'.

It is learning to trust. Trust your body, trust your brain, trust the process.

Prehab is hope.
