"Warm Summer Sun" by Walt Whitman
Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

Originally designed by celebrated architect Sir Miles Warren, the Harewood Chapel underwent thoughtful renovations in 2024, meticulously preserving its unique character and architectural integrity.
This weekend some of our team were able to join in on the Pink Ribbon Walk here in Christchurch around our lovely Hagley Park.
We were out remembering, supporting, and walking for the Breast Cancer Foundation goal of zero deaths.
It was a wonderfully warm day and even the stylish dogs of Christchurch were dressed for the occasion.

John Rhind Funeral Directors was originally established in 1881 by the brother in law of the first John Rhind, Herbert Langford to provide funeral services for the people of Christchurch. In 1906 John Rhind, whose name the firm bears now, joined the firm and it traded as Langford and Rhind for 14 years until Herbert sold his interest to John Rhind who continued to run the firm with the assistance of his sons until his death in 1944.
Over 5 generations, many Rhind family members have had involvement with the family funeral business. John Rhind was manager from 1958 until 1990, after which Graeme Rhind took over until 1995. From there Steven Rhind managed the business until 2002 whereby long term John Rhind employee Tony Garing has taken over the reins. The Rhind family association is still strong with Nick Rhind (Graeme’s son) remaining in the business as a funeral director.
John Rhind Funeral Directors is just one of a few Canterbury businesses that, after more than a century, is still operating from its original location. There are new buildings now, including a beautiful chapel and nearby reception lounge, but the business is still located at the London Street premises where the firm originated in 1881. A few years ago, John Rhind Funeral Directors opened an office in an historic building in central Kaiapoi to better serve the North Canterbury community. After the 2011 Christchurch Earthquakes this office relocated to Williams Street, Kaiapoi in a renovated cottage.
