It’s easy to live with dry, rough and flaky skin for so long, that it almost starts to feel normal. But let us make it clear as podiatrists, having chronically dry skin is not normal.

Summer’s here, and going barefoot feels amazing… but it can also put your feet at risk! At Merivale Podiatry, we see more foot injuries in the warmer months. Here are some common mishaps and tips to keep your feet safe:

1️⃣ Cuts & Grazes – Sharp shells, stones, or hidden objects can cause cuts.
Tip: Clean gently with Microdacyn Wound Wash, apply Betadine or Crystaderm, and cover with a sterile dressing.

2️⃣ Blisters – Friction from barefoot walks or sandals can lead to painful blisters.
Tip: Clean, cover with a Sterile Island Dressing, and use Engo Blister Patches to prevent new ones. Recurring or infected blisters? Book a podiatry appointment.

3️⃣ Burnt Soles – Hot sand or footpaths can burn quickly.
Tip: Cool under running water, avoid popping blisters, and protect with Spirulain Gel.

4️⃣ Sunburnt Feet – The Tops of feet are often forgotten!
Tip: Apply sunscreen before heading outdoors.

5️⃣ Insect Bites & Stings – Bare feet attract bites and stings.
Tip: Wash the area, use a cold compress and an antiseptic like Crystaderm. Avoid scratching.
