51 KAIMANAWA HORSES SAFE. 81 UNSAFE.

Just 60 hours to go until applications close on Sunday evening.
We are in the final hours for this year’s Kaimanawa herd.

There are really two main options remaining for the horses still unplaced:

1️⃣ Culling.
This is the direction this year was always intended to head.
The Wild Horse Advisory Group made it very clear that leniency had already been granted: the herd was allowed to remain at 400, when the target was originally 300. This meant 279 horses needed homes, not 379 — an impossible number.

2️⃣ Homes secured in the next 60 hours, or excess horses saved via public crowdfunding.

We know there are still homes in the works — our KLF Approved Trainers personally know of about 9 pending homes that haven’t yet completed their paperwork. But even if we place 65 horses in total, and reach the halfway mark, there will still be around 65 excess.

For those horses, we’ve been given until 28 July to raise public funds to save any unhomed horses. These would be placed with KLF Approved Trainers — so no property checks, or references would be required. While applications will close for the general public on Sunday, KLF can continue raising funds right up to the final moments when transport is being arranged.

Every single additional owner who steps up this weekend helps secure the herd’s safety for the next decade. Every additional home reduces the number of horses left at risk — not just this year, but into the future.

Visit www.kaimanawaheritagehorses.org to adopt a horse or email info@kaimanawalegacyfoundation.org to apply for a KLF Initial Handling Subsidy.

You can also donate to help us save more excess horses:

Introducing Goddess Theia - Theia was born during the Venus ruled Eclipse around 1.05am 3rd October 2024.
The following astrology information was communicated to me last evening from a friend Kathryn Tutill. (It is so correct - Theia came into this world bigger than expected and very vocally announcing her arrival.)
This Eclipse is Venus ruled. She is Gemini Ascendant (so will be chatty) good clear communication important for her. She will also be bigger than expected - Jupiter rising when she was born.

Bubs has a Kite formation Astrology Chart (very lucky); and a grand water trine - sensitive, sassy, emotional!

Great wee Filly!
You are good with names 😉

Dragons Head is RAHU - Moons Nodes are needed to form the eclipse - Dragons tail (past life) is KETU. These are the fixed ecliptic points to create the eclipse. This one formed a Ring-of-Fire due to the Moon being smaller than the Sun, so the Suns rays were shining through around the Moon 🌑

Giving bute/danilon to horses with laminitis is the quickest way to ease the pain but unfortunately, this popular and commonly used drug has no effect on the high levels of circulating inflammatory chemicals. The inflammatory chemicals are responsible for damage done to the sensitive laminae, which peak at 20-48hrs after the onset of lameness. Whilst bute makes the horse and owner feel better, there is sadly no resolution to the damage continuing unabated in feet.
The horse still needs extra doses of antioxidants to minimise and mop up the effects of the circulating inflammatory chemicals that bute is unable to change or effect, the symptoms of which are Obel grade 1 laminitis (paddling or lifting one foot then the other, short stilted gait in trot).
Horses with the carb overload type of laminitis will have raised levels of IL-1 IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12p35, COX-2, E-selectin and ICAM-1 and whilst the bute will mask the pain it does not alter the cocktail of deadly chemicals the laminitis episode has released, these chemicals rapidly causing devastating levels of breakdown.
A mix of 5 of the strongest plant anti-inflammatories are required to dampen down, buffer and reduce the effects of all the chemicals released, usually found in the bark or more woody part of the plant/shrub/ and the best to use include curcumin, uncario tomentosa, smilex and maytenus.
Apart from curcumin, plants containing high enough levels of these chemicals are not the easiest thing to source especially as for speed they should be ground finely and mixed with 20 mls of omega 3 oil and syringed in three times per day. Freely foraging horses will find enough in wild barberry, blueberry and white willow.
We do put this cocktail in an inexpensive product called Rescue Remedy www.phytorigins.com

Well. It’s nearly the end of this amazing journey!
Last little things to do for my submissions for the Freedom to Friendship challenge and then Warhawk and myself can take a well earned breather.

It’s been about 10 months now since Warhawk was mustered and arrived in Taupo for me to start training as one of Kelly Wilson’s stallion interns.

The things I’ve learnt, the people I’ve met… and the people this whole thing has drawn me closer to I will forever be grateful for.

Equifest being cancelled changed track for me. And a bit of out of the box thinking in a short space of time was required. Overall I’m so very happy with Hawks progress. He is one of the most honest and safest ponies I’ve had the privilege to meet let alone be given the chance to work with. Hawk is super intelligent which has made my journey with him equally easy and super challenging. I’ve become a better human because of him.

I owe a ton of thanks to the NZ Film Horse Alliance for introducing me to a fun and very educational sport that really helped me with my riding with all my horses and this obviously rubbed off on Warhawk too 🙂 I can’t wait to keep training Hawk with you guys!

Massive thanks also to Eqos Photography for your hours of stunning photo taking and filming
