Forté Health is a private hospital designed for short-stay procedures. We provide state-of-the-art facilities including four operating theatres, a 12-bed recovery area, 22 overnight suites and two day stay lounges. At Forté Health we offer world-leading surgical care for a range of specialties including gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, oral and dental and otolaryngology (ENT). For our youngest patients we offer specialist children’s facilities and programmes, including ‘Ra and Poppy’s Visit to Forte Health’ - a book written to help children understand the hospital journey. As well as offering a new standard in hospital care, Forté Health is New Zealand's first net carbon zero hospital. Sustainability has been part of our kaupapa since our beginnings, delivering the very best patient care possible in one of New Zealand’s safest and most environmentally friendly buildings, with Forté being New Zealand’s first hospital to achieve four star green certification.

Forté Hospital is proud to support greater access to Rongoā Māori for our team, acknowledging the vital role cultural wellbeing plays in holistic health. Rongoā Māori is a traditional healing system passed down through generations, offering practices such as mirimiri, rongoā rākau, wairua support, and therapeutic kōrero. Employees can access this service through the EAP National Support Centre.

Mike our CEO, and Ange, our Hospital Manager, recently took a break from business to do some weaving for our Tukutuku feature wall panel, a collaborative artwork project for the YouthHub CHCH atrium. We're proud supporters of Youth Hub Christchurch, New Zealand's first purpose-built Youth Hub with supported housing facilities. 2026 is set to be a big year for the hub with plenty of exciting milestones ahead.

Leading from the front, Forté Gynaecology & General Theatre Team Leader Katrina Jolly spearheaded the inaugural gynaecology symposium at Forté Health last year.

A collaborative event bringing together Health Care Professionals including nurses, gynaecology outpatient staff from across sector organisations, the focus was on building knowledge and capability in gynaecology.

With topics ranging from menopause management and managing gynaecological conditions with the latest diagnostic and treatment strategies, through to the role of the anaesthetist in gynaecology surgery, the symposium was enthusiastically received.

“I was regularly approached by members of the Gynaecology team asking about upcoming study days or conferences they could attend. This highlighted a clear gap in accessible professional development for staff working in women’s health."

Our last patients for the year will be discharged this morning to spend Christmas with their families.

The Hospital will close today and reopen for surgeries Tuesday, 13 January 2026.

Here are a few key dates to keep in mind:
- Last day for stayover surgery: 22 December
- All stayover patients discharged: 23 December
- Last day for day surgery: 23 December
- Hospital closes: 23 December
- Surgery resumes: Tuesday 13 January 2026

We’re underway! Last week we welcomed our new hospital facility construction partner Naylor Love on site to begin the build that will substantially expand Forté's capacity for elective surgery.

Due for completion in mid-2027, this significant investment will increase our theatres from five to nine, and bed numbers from 22 to 61, including a special care unit to allow for more complex, longer-stay surgeries like joint replacements, bariatric and cancer surgery.
