Family Monument - This upright monument has space for up to eight individual inscriptions. Choose from different granite styles to personalise your family’s memorial. Ashes may be interred in the garden with each monument.

A lovely evening was held at the Canterbury Crematorium Chapel for the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week remembering and honouring the babies lost during pregnancy or infancy. Names were spoken and lighting a candle for each of the babies, creating a space of reflection, love and connection that reached far beyond our Chapel walls.

The statistics were 143 people joined us live, with 190 registered for the event from across New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and the United States. As the first country to reach 7pm, New Zealand had the honour of initiating the Global Wave of Light, a powerful symbol of unity and remembrance that continues around the world.

A special thank you to Jane for Chapel Support to SANDS for helping coordinate the event and our gardener Aly for helping with the beautiful floral arrangement – it added such grace and warmth to the evening, very much appreciated.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to the SANDS volunteers, whose dedication ensures that these precious memories are never forgotten. Your presence and support help bring comfort to so many.

Proud to support SANDS and their volunteers for Wave of Light on Wednesday 15th Oct 2025

Kia ora koutou, we would love to light a candle for your precious baby/babies at the online Global Wave of Light service, but tomorrow is the last day to be able to submit the name of your baby/babies .

If you would like us to light a candle in memory of your baby or babies, please click the link to the google form below and submit by tomorrow, 13th of October. The link to the service will be posted on the 15th of October on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

The Global Wave of Light is an international celebration that takes place on the 15th October, International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. On this day, bereaved parents, whānau and friends around the world light a candle at 7:00pm in memory of their precious baby or babies. We begin the wave of light in Aotearoa, setting off a continuous wave of light and aroha that wraps around the globe.

Individual Rose Memorial - Choose a standard rose in our rose gardens as an elegant memorial. We will place an inscribed granite memorial plaque in front of your rose. Ashes may be interred in the garden beneath the plaque.

Our beautiful Gardens will continue to be open 7 days a week throughout the holiday period, including any statutory holidays.

Although the Gardens are open throughout, our offices will be closed on all statutory holiday days. Should you need any information on the location of a loved one, or have any queries, please feel free to contact us on those days that are not public holidays or weekends during the holiday period.
