An additional third dose of Pfizer/Comirnaty vaccine is available for those who are severely immunocompromised.
Studies have shown that these people may not have produced a sufficient immune response after the first two doses of vaccine . Severely immunocompromised people are also at a higher risk of severe outcomes if infected with Covid.
The third dose is to be given at least 8 weeks after the second dose.
Adverse reactions reported following a third dose are similar to those after the second Dose. Pain at the injection site and fatigue are the most commonly reported.
Strict eligibility criteria apply. There are 4 main groups of people who qualify:
- Primary or acquired immune deficiency
- People on immunosupressive or immune modulating therapy at the time of vaccination Eg Chemotherapy or radiotherapy in the last 6 months
- Chronic inflammatory disease patients who had immunosuppressive therapy prior to vaccination
- People who have had high dose steroids in the month before vaccination
Eg prednisone 40mg a day for more than a week in the month before vaccination
If you think you may qualify for a third dose of vaccine please come in and discuss with your doctor. This consult will be funded .If you do not qualify you will not be charged.
Booster Vaccination: The Government is currently working on rolling out booster doses of vaccine for other groups-possibly those aged over 65 and those with specified medical conditions.
