Cromwell.
A symptomatic measles case was in Cromwell 21 September.
The virus is highly contagious and lasts for 2 hours in the air.
It takes 10-12 days from exposure until first symptoms, meaning we need to be VERY VIGILANT for any symptoms of measles.
If you have
High fever
Runny nose
Cough
Runny red eyes
Red itchy rash (usually takes 3-5 days after first symptoms)
CALL YOUR MEDICAL CENTRE ASAP. do NOT turn up to the medical centre , pharmacy , supermarket, Measles spreads rapidly.
EVERYONE born after 1969 (under 56) check your vaccine history on Manage my Health or Health 365, if you have 2 recorded MMR vaccine doses you are protected. If not...
EVERYONE born after 1969 in town, whether funded for healthcare or not, can get a measles vaccine.
Central Otago Pharmacy has MMR vaccine and can offer vaccines to those needing it:
10am-4pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays
1pm-4.30pm Friday
We are unable to look up your vaccine history for MMR as the new system doesn't go back before 2022.
