Taking a walk through bush can do wonders for your health. Spending time around trees may reduce stress by lowering your heart rate and muscle tension leading to lower blood pressure and improved mood. Whatever way you look at it, spending time in nature with family, friends or by yourself could be the pick up we need after a busy week. Here is our go to spot. Lisa.

This beauty has wonderful powers, as well as being an attractive tree. Kanuka is best known to be used internally for it's anti inflammatory, anti viral and anti microbial properties. I use Kanuka mainly for viral conditions to support recovery. Here is one of our Kanuka trees. Lisa

Kawakawa part 2 - external uses. Because of its anti inflammatory and anti microbial properties, Kawakawa used in a topical cream assists in healing cuts, wounds and skin conditions such as eczema, rashes, psoriasis and insect bites. It is even able to be used to assist in rheumatic pain. Such a versatile herb - one I love to use in creams and balms. Lisa
Tip - Great for bruises!

We are truly blessed in NZ to have so many wonderful native trees and shrubs that provide medicinal uses. Kawakawa is I believe under rated for the powers it contains. It can be used internally for digestive complaints such as Irritable bowel syndrome, bloating and antimicrobial activities.
TIP - steep some leaves in hot water and drink it as a tea. Also used for coughs, colds, as a gargle for sore throats and healing the gums.
Here is a photo of a small Kawakawa bush that we have in a pot, Colin has grown this from a cutting and we use the leaves regularly for our cups of tea. Lisa

On the wind down to the weekend, something light to think about - tomatoes, not a herb I know but the red lycopene providing heaps of antioxidants as well as being a good source of Vitamin C, potassium, folate and Vitamin K. A tip with tomatoes - if you are diabetic, do not cook them as the sugar structure changes exponentially, spiking blood sugar levels.
Here is one harvest of our tomatoes this year - Lisa
