Meet Collin – the latest addition to our growing team! 🎉

Originally from Austin, Texas, Collin's path into acupuncture is a personal one. After years of chronic pain with no relief from medication or surgery, he turned to acupuncture as a last resort – and drove home from that very first session with a huge smile on his face. That experience changed everything, and many years and adventures later, he completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture at the New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Since graduating, Collin has worked in private clinics in Central Dunedin and Palmerston and has run community acupuncture clinics in Waitati and Karitane. Now back in Dunedin to be closer to his brother, sister-in-law, and their four kids – including a set of triplets who have just turned five – we're so glad he's found a home with us! Uncle duties are clearly well established, with over 1,000 nappy changes to prove it. 🍼

A gentler approach to acupuncture – Collin’s approach centres on gentle Japanese acupuncture techniques, known for their finer needles and lighter, more precise touch. This softer style focuses on careful needle placement and subtle technique, offering a calm and measured treatment experience. He also incorporates auricular (ear) acupuncture and warming moxibustion where appropriate.

He works with a wide range of people and has a particular soft spot for those who arrive at acupuncture uncertain – having walked that path himself, he understands exactly how they feel. 🙏

When he's not in the clinic, you'll find him surfing, climbing, growing food, or making music. 🌱🎵

Collin is now taking bookings – no GP referral needed. Simply get in touch with the clinic to make an appointment. We can't wait for you to meet him! 👋

We're so excited to welcome a new physio, Jericho Suplig, to the Consultancy House Clinic whānau! 🎉

Originally from the Philippines, Jericho was inspired by his older brother and cousin – both physios who'd already made Dunedin home – to make the move to Aotearoa, where he studied physiotherapy at the University of Otago. Now more of his family are here pursuing health careers. Caring for others clearly runs in the family!

Jericho loves working with people of all ages and backgrounds, supporting recovery from musculoskeletal injuries and helping clients get back to doing what they love. He's also gained great hands-on experience as a sideline medic for local rugby teams, covering acute sporting injuries, strapping, and concussion screening.

He has a particular passion for hands-on physiotherapy, especially Mobilisation with Movement (MWM), which integrates joint techniques with active movement to improve function and help you move better.

When he's not in the clinic, you'll find Jericho at the gym, on the basketball court, or cycling around the harbour. 🚴

Jericho is now taking bookings – and no GP referral is needed.

Simply get in touch with the clinic to make an appointment 03 477 7746. We can't wait for you to meet him! 👋

🏋️ That post-workout soreness explained. 🏋️‍♀️

😣 “I can’t walk down stairs” feeling the day after a big workout?
That’s DOMS. It stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, and it’s a totally normal response to unfamiliar or intense activity.

It usually kicks in 12–24 hours after exercise and can peak around the 48-hour mark. You might feel stiff, sore, or tight – but don’t worry, it’s a sign your muscles are adapting and getting stronger. 💪

💡 DOMS vs Injury Pain:
DOMS is general, dull, and usually affects both sides of the body.
Injury pain tends to be sharp, sudden, or localised, and might not ease up.

What helps DOMS?
🧘 Gentle movement
🛁 Warm baths
🚶 Light walking
❌ Not lying still all day (that makes it worse!)

It usually passes in 2–3 days. If pain lingers longer or feels “not quite right,” it’s a good idea to check in with your physio. Better to be safe – and keep moving smart. 👣

👋 Meet Sanjay - Physiotherapist 👋

Sanjay is one of our physiotherapists at Consultancy House Clinic and is currently completing his Master's in Physiotherapy at the University of Otago (part-time).

His research project explores how manual therapy may support people living with hip osteoarthritis.

While osteoarthritis cannot be cured, physiotherapy can play a role in helping people manage symptoms and maintain functionality through an individualised, assessment-led approach.

Sanjay combines manual therapy, movement retraining, exercise-based rehabilitation and more, guided by clinical reasoning and current research.

Originally from Nepal, he has over ten years of physiotherapy experience and continues to develop his expertise alongside his postgraduate research.

👉 If something has been affecting how you move, a physiotherapy assessment can help you better understand your options and discuss appropriate next steps.

No GP referral is needed — appointments can be booked directly.

Thank you to Lisa DeStefano for generously sharing her 30 years of experience in the management and treatment of sports-related and overuse injuries, and complex lumbar and pelvic pain problems.

Introducing new concepts and refining hands on skills. Precision of palpation and motion testing. It’s been exhausting but great! Cannot wait to bring this to the Clinic 🙂

Thank you Sarah Boughtwood Osteopath fo bringing this wealth of knowledge or New Zealand.

📌 The ACC Process 📌

After an accident, ACC support typically involves three steps:

1. Assessment and ACC claim
At your appointment, a registered health professional (Physio/Chiro/Osteopath/GP) assesses your injury and can lodge an ACC claim if it meets ACC criteria.

2. Treatment
If the claim is accepted, treatment may begin to help manage symptoms and support recovery.

3. Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation focuses on restoring movement, strength, and function so you can return to everyday activities, work, or sport.
