🌟 Understanding DXA: A Key to Better Bone Health! 🌟

Did you know that DXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is the gold standard for measuring bone density? 🦴 Whether you're keeping track of your bone health or looking to prevent conditions like osteoporosis, a DXA scan provides precise insights into the strength of your bones.

πŸ’‘ DXA is non-invasive, quick, and helps healthcare professionals assess your risk for fractures, guide treatment plans, and monitor progress over time. It's a game-changer in proactive health management!

Talk to your doctor about whether a DXA scan might be right for you. Make sure your referral lands at 360 Health and our team of certified imaging technologists will provide you with the best care during your scan.

Stay healthy, stay strong! πŸ’ͺ Kia Manawanui, Kia Kaha!

Introducing Dr Hamish Osborne

MB ChB FACSP

Hamish is a specialist Sports and Exercise Physician, with a background in elite sport.

Hamish’s main focus for most patients is making the correct diagnosis which leads to the correct treatment of injuries and illnesses. These can be related to sports, exercise, recreational activities, and also those suffered by people in the performing arts such as musicians and dancers. This may include sports and overload injuries to all parts of the body, elements of sports nutrition, breathing difficulties in sports (e.g. asthma), and exercise and rehabilitation programmes.

Hamish has previously provided athlete medical care at the 2000 Olympics, was the medical director for the Hopman Cup (ITF Mixed Doubles) for 8 years and worked for a decade with Australian Rules Football and Women’s National League Basketball. He was a doctor to the Highlanders in 2012 and most recently was the team doctor for the Tall Blacks for six years and Otago Nuggets basketball teams. In his spare time Hamish enjoys swimming, recently competing in the Masters games where he won a number of gold medals. He also enjoys spending time with his family including sailing with his 2 boys.

We are enjoying putting together some content to help fuel future swimmers 🫢

School is back and many of the young swimmers are walking to the pool after school and using the time before training starts to get some homework done.

It is also critical to get a pre-training meal/snack on board to support young athletes' energy needs for training, health and wellbeing. Plus, lunch was a long time ago and there may have been other activities during the day that put extra demand on their fuel stores, such as sports practices over lunch, a hard PE session, or a β€œsocially competitive” game during lunch.

Here are my 3 top snacks kids can make the night before and pop in a separate lunchbox with a chiller pad in their swimming bags.

Really encourage your young swimmers to be self-responsible, learn life skills, and start putting their own pre-training lunch box together.
