Thanks for your support over the last 5 years.
It has been a privilege to be involved with several hundred concussed athletes and also to be part of their recovery.
Over the last 2 years we have been fortunate to have a number of studies in Dunedin which have recruited athletes when concussed and offered them follow up. Over this time the numbers of concussions I have seen have reduced markedly.
The aim of the acute concussion clinic was always to fill a need and provide a high level of care for athletes with acute concussion and support their rehab. I have approached a couple of General Practices/ Physio Practices to collaborate but there is difficulty in making a clinic financially viable for them. From this perspective and with the volume of presentations to this clinic decreasing, I am closing permanently.
If you are concussed either your GP or if a student, the University Concussion Clinic will be able to provide acute care. If you are not recovering they can refer you to an ACC Concussion Service.
I still have a keen interest in Concussion and Brain Injury and will continue to work with Super/Test Rugby and also as a Specialist within the ACC Concussion Services covering the bottom half of the South Island.
Enjoy your return to sport
Keep your head safe.
Kind regards
Helen
