Last week I was out for 3 days with a migraine.
By Friday arvo I was left with a “migraine hangover”. Brain fog, lingering sensitivity, fatigue …

This is a snippet from my practice that day.

Post-migraine, I focus on:
• Keeping the head above the heart to avoid pressure
• Minimising compression around the head and neck
• Slow movements
• Supported, longer-held shapes to reduce effort
• Finishing with a gentle pranayama to settle the nervous system

I’m considering creating a short post-migraine yoga practice for YouTube.

If that would be supportive for you, comment “yes” below 🤍

The ocean this morning pretty much sums up how many of us are feeling when we look at the news.
So much pain, destruction, lies and corruption. It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed. Heavy, frozen.

In times like these, I’m extra grateful for my yoga practice. One part of yoga is learning to work with the mind. Noticing that inner voice and learning not to let it run the show. This isn’t easy. I spiral too, I get caught in obsessive thoughts.

Yoga is teaching me to notice when that’s happening. And with so many things in life, change can only happen once we notice.

It gives me moments of quiet and calm, even when the world feels loud. And the more we practise noticing, the easier it becomes to regain a sense of choice and control.

I am curious, what helps you?

Starting the day with a little movement helps me set the tone for the day. The feeling of having already done something for myself.

Most days, that looks like a walk followed by some form of yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation).

Not having to walk uphill every time I leave the house makes a real difference, especially on days when I’m not feeling my best mentally or physically.

This is one of the reasons I created Sunny Side Up. A low-effort way to begin your day with movement.
Roll out of bed, onto your mat and I’ll guide you from there.

As the year wraps up, life tends to get busy. Especially here in the Southern Hemisphere, where summer adds even more fun to the mix.

Honestly, I suggest to let the next couple of weeks be exactly what they are: full, fun and probably a little chaotic. That’s okay! Between festivities, family, late nights and maybe a few too many drinks or desserts, it’s a win just remembering what day it is.

And then.. when January starts to settle in and you’re ready to move forward with a little more ease, I’ve got you covered.

A gentle return, not a hard reset.

Puhhh… the last month has been a lot. Packing up the life (and all the little trinkets I’ve collected over the past 9+ years) is big. I was pretty pleased with how well I handled the move… until I didn’t.
A week or 2 after arriving in Ōtepoti, I head out to explore. I booked a yoga class, jumped in the car and drove into town. Only to end up circling for parking, feeling lost and overwhelmed. By the time I found a spot, I was so worked up I ended up crying the car for 10min before heading back home. It wasn’t the parking (it’s actually great here esp. compared to QT 😅). I just didn’t have my bearings yet and after weeks of change, this is what tipped me over.
Then came heightened anxiety. Going to the gym, leaving twice after 15 minutes because my mind said nope.

Why am I sharing this? Because even the “simple things” can feel hard sometimes. And that’s okay. You’re not alone if life feels big right now.

What’s been helping me to feel more settle again:
- Going to yoga classes in person (or live online)
- Reaching out to friends
- Unpacking the things that make the new space feel like home first
- Creating routines — morning walks, no socials until after breakfast
- Pauses throughout the day — few deep breaths , a moment to notice the seemingly mundane like the light in a room

Big emotions are normal. Be kind to yourself.
