Akaroa Lavender Akaroa Lavender is an organic lavender farm with short-term rental accommodations above Akaroa harbour. Akaroa Organics produces two types of lavender.

We also do seasonal guided walks focusing on lavender (summer) and conservation (winter). Lavender is an ancient oil that continues to have many uses. The name means to wash and originates from the Latin word ‘lavare’. It’s ancient uses include bathing, scenting clothes, healing and antiseptic qualities, and as an insect repellant. These days lavender is widely used as: a sedative, an anti depress

ant, an antibiotic, an antiseptic, muscle relaxant and in the treatment of eczema. The increasingly popular art of aromatherapy is helping this natural product make a comeback. Lavender oil is safe to use externally but should be used with caution during pregnancy. Our largest amount of oil originates from plants known as Grosso. Grosso Lavandin is a naturally occurring hybrid of Lavandin angustifolia and Lavindin latifolia. A smaller amount of oil is made from Lavandula Angustifolia known as Pacific Blue. This is a New Zealand origin lavender.

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Akaroa Walking Group to the farm this week 🌿💜

It was a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for lavender—its beauty, its uses, and the care that goes into growing it sustainably. Even more special was being able to talk about our ongoing conservation efforts and the small but meaningful steps we’re taking to protect and nurture the land around us.

There’s something truly rewarding about connecting with people who appreciate nature, slow living, and the stories behind what we grow. Thank you for visiting, for your curiosity, and for sharing in what we love to do every day.

Our guided lavender field tours are now closed until November.

You can however experience the mahi on a one hour guided tour from March to November.

The story of our efforts to return the property to its pre-European tunga, are shared as you explore the regenerating forest. Enjoy forest and field walks, complimentary “kiwi as afternoon tea”, and the opportunity to purchase lavender products.

Your experienced guide has been sharing the stories of Aotearoa with people from around the globe for many years.

At the end of the tour you are welcome to stay on and soak in the sounds, silence and sensations of our place.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and took the time to learn about life at the lavender field. We loved sharing our passion with you all.
