With great sadness our whānau mourn the loss of Joanne Whareaitu who passed away this afternoon Thursday 15th January 2026.

Aunty passed away peacefully surrounded by her whānau at Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North.

She will be taken to Te Awahou Funeral Directors tonight before being taken to lie at Kererū Marae 484 Koputaroa Rd tomorrow morning (Friday 16 January 2026). Aunty's celebration of life will be this Saturday 17th January 2026 1pm at Kereru Marae.

ELLEN HUIRANGI VAN NISTELROOY (nee KETU) aged 67yrs.

Wife of Pieter Van Nistelrooy, and beloved māmā of Ema & Glen Nixon, and Bryce Van Nistelrooy.
Adored Nanny to her precious mokopuna, Zion, Siobhorn, Shiloh & Xavier.

Cherished daughter of the late Claude Turetangata Ketu (Te Waa Rangitakatu) & Aniwaniwa Oterangi Ketu (nee Mc Gregor).

Treasured sister of Claude Ketu (dec), Diana Manihera, Mae Houston, Robert Ketu, Nina Pilkington, Moses Ketu (dec), Lani Ketu-Taiaroa.
Fun-loving & vibrant aunty to all her nieces and nephews. Hoa/friend to many.

Ellen is currently laying in state at her home in Shannon. She will be taken to Whakawehi Marae, Poutū Pā, Shannon on Thursday, 15 January @ 3.00pm. Tangi will be held on Sunday, 18 January at 11.00am. Burial at Whakawehi Urupā.

Nau mai e te tini e te mano, ki te poroporoakitia i tō tātou taonga. All are welcome to come and pay your last respects.
