He pānui tangihanga

Moe mai rā
Jeninne Ratapu
5 May 1964 ~ 5 September 2025

Beloved daughter of the late Stuart and Parekowhiwhi Leach (nee Harrison), and sibling to Kahu (dec), Ra, Sera (dec), Bumps (dec), Brian, Blondie (dec), Marcus (dec), Lee (dec), Lou, Mem (dec) and Tai.

Missed Māmā of Calvert and Shiiyanne, and cherished Nan to Zephaniah, Michaiah, Malachii, Zion and Roman, the whānau kuri.

Jeninne passed through the veil surrounded by whānau at Dunblane Lifecare, 178 Rutene Road, Kaiti, Gisborne, where a short karakia service will be held at 6pm, followed by whanaungatanga, music and singing.

Jeninne will lay Friday night at Dunblane and will then travel to Whāngārā Marae on Saturday to lay amongst her people.

The pōwhiri on to the marae will be at 12pm, and a service will be held on Saturday (time to be confirmed), which may be shared with the Nikora family, as her sweetheart, Phillip, would like to tautoko the extended whānau also experiencing tangihanga at the marae.

Poroporoaki will be held Sunday night at 6pm - all are welcome to join. The closing of the lid will happen before dawn at 5:30am the following morning.

Jeninne's funeral service will be held on Monday at 10am, followed by burial at Whāngārā Urupā. Hakari will follow at the marae.

Nau mai, haere mai.

This small business in Tolaga Bay provides us with a premium product that we use as part of our natural solution to chemical embalming.

☝🏼 Fun Fact: Activated charcoal enriches nutrients back in to our soils.

Manaaki Mats are our number one product in offering a much greener, eco-friendly alternative to chemical embalming. 👌🏼 Learn more. 🥰

Wishing all who are attending the Compassionate Communities Hui in Whangārei a wonderful time. It is with regret that we can't be this year, we loved being a part of the 2024 hui in Rotorua where we shared information and gave away many mats.

Many groups around the country are supporting their communities offering cooling plates, Manaaki Mats, Ice or traditional practices. Manaaki Mats is only associated with deathcare and comes with support and guidance. We are proud of the growing awareness and difference Manaaki Mats are making in this space, not just in the hospitals, hospices but also in the home.

Thank you Go with Grace for all the organisation for having the 2025 hui in Whangārei.
May it be filled with many powerful moments of sharing and learning, we look forward to seeing this beautiful space continue to grow.
