Huringa Pai Charitable Trust aspires to make a profound impact on the health and well-being of Tairawhiti's diverse community. Our mission is to narrow the statistic that indigenous people die 10 years younger than non-indigenous individuals by combating high rates of prediabetes and diabetes. We focus particularly on Pacific Island, Indian, and Māori populations, who are disproportionately affected by these conditions according to the New Zealand Virtual Diabetes Register for Tairawhiti. Our project offers free, world-class activities and fitness sessions to help combat prediabetes and diabetes. By removing financial barriers and promoting an inclusive environment, we support health and well-being for all. Community involvement is at the core of our initiative. Our programs are shaped by direct input from local whānau, ensuring cultural relevance and sustainability. This participatory approach fosters unity, cultural integrity, and active engagement while empowering individuals through education on diabetes prevention and self-care, fostering ownership and responsibility for health outcomes. Funding will ensure the sustainability and expansion of our outreach, making our programs accessible to more community members. This community-led model significantly reduces health inequities by providing equal access to quality health resources, particularly for vulnerable populations. Aligned with Tu Maori Mai, Kaitiakitanga, and Mana Taurite, we promote Māori health aspirations, shared responsibility for well-being, and equity. Your support will help us enhance our capacity to serve, educate, and uplift the community, ensuring lasting health equity and empowerment for Tairawhiti’s residents. Huringa Pai has already helped approximately 5,000 people improve their health through various programs and initiatives, driven by the philosophy of "for the whānau by the whānau." Your support will continue to create a healthier and more united community.
