Huringa Pai - Whanau living healthy longer Making a stand against our whanau dying too young! We want to kill prediabetes so its complications can stop killing our whanau!

Huringa Pai Charitable Trust aspires to make a profound impact on the health and well-being of Tairawhiti's diverse community. Our mission is to narrow the statistic that indigenous people die 10 years younger than non-indigenous individuals by combating high rates of prediabetes and diabetes. We focus particularly on Pacific Island, Indian, and Māori populations, who are disproportionately affected by these conditions according to the New Zealand Virtual Diabetes Register for Tairawhiti. Our project offers free, world-class activities and fitness sessions to help combat prediabetes and diabetes. By removing financial barriers and promoting an inclusive environment, we support health and well-being for all. Community involvement is at the core of our initiative. Our programs are shaped by direct input from local whānau, ensuring cultural relevance and sustainability. This participatory approach fosters unity, cultural integrity, and active engagement while empowering individuals through education on diabetes prevention and self-care, fostering ownership and responsibility for health outcomes. Funding will ensure the sustainability and expansion of our outreach, making our programs accessible to more community members. This community-led model significantly reduces health inequities by providing equal access to quality health resources, particularly for vulnerable populations. Aligned with Tu Maori Mai, Kaitiakitanga, and Mana Taurite, we promote Māori health aspirations, shared responsibility for well-being, and equity. Your support will help us enhance our capacity to serve, educate, and uplift the community, ensuring lasting health equity and empowerment for Tairawhiti’s residents. Huringa Pai has already helped approximately 5,000 people improve their health through various programs and initiatives, driven by the philosophy of "for the whānau by the whānau." Your support will continue to create a healthier and more united community.

💙🚶🏽‍♀️ Huringa Pai Diabetes Awareness Hīkoi with Blair🚶🏽‍♂️💙

This morning we hit the Te Kuri Walkway for our Diabetes Awareness Hīkoi and what an awesome day it was - thanks Blair & Sione 🌿🙌🏽

Our whānau showed up, walked together, laughed together, and raised awareness for Diabetes Awareness Month (November) — showing what it looks like when our community walks the talk for better health. 💪🏽

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped spread the message of whānau living healthy longer. 💙

November is about awareness, prevention and knowing our numbers — and today our hīkoi made that message loud and clear.

These numbers aren’t just statistics — they’re our whānau, our friends, our community. 💔
But together, we can change them. 💪🏽

🌍✨ This World Diabetes Day, we are shining a light on the critical need for improved care and support in the workplace for those living with diabetes. Together, we can empower individuals to thrive in their careers and beyond. 💪❤️

Did you know?
* A staggering 589 million adults worldwide are living with diabetes, and 7 in 10 are of working age.
* 3 in 4 of these individuals reside in low- and middle-income countries.
* Close to 50% of adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed.
* Many face significant mental health challenges: 3 in 4 report experiencing anxiety, depression, or another mental health condition related to their diabetes.
* Moreover, 4 in 5 have experienced diabetes burnout.

It's time to prioritise their needs and create supportive environments that foster well-being. Let’s work together to ensure that every person living with diabetes feels empowered and supported in their workplace! 💙
