Flu season is on its way, and now’s the perfect time to get protected. And yes - it really can be as easy as it looks 😄 Free flu vaccines are now available for people aged 65 and over, expectant mums, children aged 4 and under with respiratory conditions, and adults with long-term health conditions, reduced immunity, or specific mental health or addiction issues. If you don’t qualify for a free vaccine, the cost is $35.

Our nurses are very experienced at giving flu vaccinations and making the process as easy and comfortable as possible. A simple flu jab can help reduce your risk of getting seriously unwell or needing hospital care.

We’re excited to welcome Dr Angela Glew to the Little London Medical whaanau! Angela joined us in January and brings a rich mix of skills and experience to our practice.

Originally from the UK, Angela began her medical career in emergency medicine before completing her GP training in the rural Yorkshire Moors. She went on to work in a busy clinic in York city before moving “down under” in 2008. Since then, she’s worked as a GP in the Australian outback and across the Waikato in Putāruru, Raglan and Hamilton East.

Angela will be seeing patients at Little London Medical every Tuesday and Thursday. She also works as a medical educator, training GP registrars across New Zealand, and is a travel medicine specialist who continues to keep her emergency skills sharp with regular A&E shifts.

Outside of work, Angela is a busy mum, a keen runner and an avid traveller.

FREE Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) appointments are now available every Thursday and Friday at Little London Medical😊

If you’re looking for some extra support to manage things like stress, anxiety, sleep issues, chronic pain, long-term conditions, addictions, grief, parenting or relationship challenges - our HIPs are here to help.

Our two HIPs, Reinae (pictured) and Tim, are trained to provide you with practical tools and real‑world strategies in focused 15–30-minute sessions. They will also give you a personalised wellbeing plan.

At Little London Medical, we’re here to support you when you need us. Our nurses can answer your questions and give advice about your health on the phone until 3.30pm each weekday. Just call us on 07 839 5004 and request a nurse to call you back.

If you think you may need to see a GP today, please phone between 8.35am – 9am when our phone lines first open. The earlier you call, the quicker we can help you.

If your situation needs prompt attention, our team will make sure you get the most appropriate care – whether that’s a same-day GP or nurse appointment, advice from a nurse, a virtual appointment with Practice Plus, or a booking within the next few days.

Practice Plus can help with a wide range of medical needs - from coughs, colds, chronic migraines and emergency contraception, through to prescriptions sent directly to your pharmacy, medical certificates, and health advice. They will send your consultation notes to Little London Medical so we can provide any follow-up care you may need. Practice Plus is open:

Next time you visit our clinic, say hello to Nurse Shae 👋 Shae joined the Little London whaanau in May and has quickly settled in with her warm smile and wealth of experience. She has a strong background in primary care and also spent a year working in the Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Shae loves the variety of patients she cares for and being part of our dedicated team. When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll often find her with her family, out cycling, or relaxing with some crochet.

Our new Manaaki room provides a comfortable safe space for us to care for patients with potentially contagious cold or flu symptoms. It allows us to provide high quality personalised care to all our patients in a way that keeps everyone safe and reduces the risk of viruses spreading.

If you are feeling unwell with a cough, sore throat, runny nose, or fever, please let our team know when you book your appointment – and we’ll arrange for you to see your GP in this purpose-built room inside the new cabin in front of our main clinic.

🎉 We’re so proud of Dr Gemma! Over the weekend, she was invited to give the Peter Anyon Memorial Address at The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners’ annual conference in Christchurch - a huge honour in the GP world. Her address highlighted the need for humanity alongside excellent clinical care. Gemma was awarded a prestigious medal in recognition of her outstanding performance during her first year of GP training.

We’re thrilled that Dr Gemma has chosen to continue her career here at Little London Medical. Her kind, approachable nature and excellent care have made her a fantastic part of our team. 💙

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr Miriam Karalus to the Little London whaanau🤩 She started seeing patients here on Monday and will be working four days a week — so be sure to say hello next time you’re in.

Miriam was born and raised in Hamilton in a large Samoan-Kiwi medical family and brings with her a real heart for community health. She’s previously worked as a GP in Tokoroa, and at K’aute Pasifika and Te Kōhao Health in Hamilton. She has a special interest in dermatology. She’s even published research in this area and plans to keep building her expertise.

Outside the clinic, Miriam is a proud member of the Pasifika community and her local church, where you’ll often find her playing the organ on Sundays. And if that’s not enough, she’s a former competitive rugby player who still trains with the Marist Women’s team.
