Raglan 275 (km) … smashed out a big day in the saddle. Had a solid day - other than general tight hips and back from almost 13 hours saddle time I felt like I nailed a decent day out. The first 160 km was mostly gravel and all the hills - some solid climbing and really amazing back country and coastal riding. The next 110 km was mostly paved and we got all the wind … very little of it was from behind 😓. Massive kudos to my comrade who is forever supportive of these missions and met me in Waitomo and joined me back to Raglan. Goal was to make it back to Raglan for fish and chips before the shop shut - due to the winds there was no water-front dining … we had our own private seating in my car sitting in the 4square parking lot 🤦‍♀️ washed down with a couple of ciders it was just what this old body needed. Mantra of the day ‘enjoy your legs’ inspired by as they navigate Johnny’s life changing spinal injury - a true example of what it means to never give up 👊
