Been a while since I’ve had my sewing machine out. And it’s been a fun little project to work on this afternoon.

Coaching shouldn’t feel like another thing on your to-do list ❌

If you’re anything like the women I work with, you’re already juggling a lot.
You look like you’re coping on the outside, but underneath, you’re tired, stretched, and wondering why everything feels harder than it used to.

When people come to see me for life coaching, they often think it will mean more work, more effort, more things to fix.

But it’s usually the opposite 🧡

My role isn’t to give you a list of things to do. It’s to help you slow down, step back, and realise you already have many of the tools you need - especially if you’re starting to feel close to burnout.

We work together to make sense of what’s going on, calm the nervous system, and help you feel more like yourself again.

Whether you're new here or you've been following for a while, and this resonates, you’re very welcome to book a free call with me to see if coaching might be the right support for you (message me, or check out my website) 💛

Golf has been teaching me a lot lately ⛳

Not just about the game, but about how easy it is to start pushing harder when things aren’t going the way you want them to.

The tighter you get, the worse the shot goes.
The more frustrated you feel, the harder it is to reset.

👉 And I see the same thing in the women I work with.

They’re capable, responsible, used to holding everything together - but underneath, they’re tired, overwhelmed, and wondering why life suddenly feels so heavy.

When people first think about coaching, they often assume it will feel like another thing on the to-do list.

🔸 More effort.
🔸 More work.
🔸 More pressure.

But it’s usually the opposite.

When we work together, we slow things down.

We make space to notice what’s really going on, calm the nervous system, and help you find your way back to feeling like yourself again 😍

If life has been feeling harder than it should lately, you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

You’re very welcome to book a free call with me to see if coaching might be the right support for you 💛 grab a time via my website, or message me and I'll guide you from there.

Our minds are always telling stories.
It’s part of how the brain works 🧠

Its job is to keep you safe, so it’s constantly interpreting what’s happening around you - often by filling in the gaps with familiar patterns from the past.

A message doesn’t get a reply.
Someone seems distant.
Something doesn’t go the way you expected.

And the mind quickly creates a story:
🔸 “I’ve done something wrong.”
🔸 “They’re upset with me.”
🔸 “This always happens to me.”

But those aren’t facts, they’re interpretations.

When we believe the story straight away, our nervous system reacts as if the story is true.

A thought creates a feeling, the feeling drives our behaviour, and before we know it, we’re caught in the swirl.

👉 One small question can change everything: What story is my mind telling me right now?

That question creates space.
And space is often where calm begins.

You don’t need to stop your thoughts, you just need to notice them with a little more curiosity and a little less judgement 🧡

I was talking with a client recently about how our minds tell stories all day long.

Not facts.
Stories.

Something happens, and before we even realise it, the mind fills in the meaning:
🔸 “They don’t like me.”
🔸 “I’ve messed this up.”
🔸 “I should be coping better than this.”

Our brain is a problem-solving machine. It’s always trying to make sense of what’s happening, often by using old patterns to predict what might come next.

The trouble is, when we believe every story straight away, our body reacts as if the story is true.

We feel tense, upset, on edge and overwhelmed.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝗸:
🔸 What actually happened? (Just the facts.)
🔸 What story is my mind telling me about it?
🔸 Is there another possible explanation?

This doesn’t mean dismissing your feelings. It simply creates space between you and the story.

Because the moment you step back from the story, even slightly, you create space.

And in that space, clarity and calm have a chance to return. 💛

I’ve been learning to play golf recently - and let me tell you, it’s been humbling 😅

Some days I hit great shots.
Other days… not so much.

Early on, a bad shot would trigger the thought: “I’m useless at this.”

That thought would create frustration.
Frustration would tighten my body.
And the next shot? Predictably worse.

What I practise now is something I also teach in my work.

Instead of becoming the thought, I notice it.

“Oh - I’m thinking I’m useless.”
“Oh - that thought is creating tension.”

That tiny step back changes everything.

My shoulders drop.
I breathe.
I reset.

⛳ The shot isn’t always perfect - but I’m no longer spiralling.

This is the power of the observer mind.
You can’t stop thoughts from appearing.
But you can stop being run by them.

And when you do, calm has a chance to return.

💚

Hello, I'm Kathy, a registered nurse, coach, and professional supervisor. I support women (and men) who give a lot of themselves to others and are quietly running on empty. Last week I walked away from my supervision sessions feeling incredibly grateful 😍

In the room (or on the screen) were people doing hard, meaningful mahi. Supporting vulnerable clients/patients/rangatahi holding complex situations, navigating systems that are not always easy to work within, and still showing up with care and commitment.

👉 What struck me most was the honesty.

People spoke openly about the challenges they are facing, the weight they sometimes carry, and the moments when they wonder if they are doing enough. Those are brave conversations to have. They require trust.

But alongside that honesty was something else: insight, courage, and a real willingness to reflect.

That is the power of good supervision 🧡

It is not just about solving problems.
It is about creating a space where people can pause, think clearly, reconnect with their values, and remember why they do this work in the first place.

I often say supervision is a place to put the load down for a moment so you can pick it back up with more clarity 💚

This week reminded me again how privileged I feel to sit alongside people in these conversations.

To everyone who showed up with openness and curiosity - thank you. It is inspiring to witness.

We often think the problem is our thoughts.

The overthinking, the self-criticism, and the running commentary that never seems to switch off.

But here’s something I share often with clients - and recently in a hospice workshop - because it really lands 👇

You are not just the thinker of your thoughts.
You can also observe them.

That small shift changes everything 🧡

Instead of “I am anxious,” you might notice: “I’m having an anxious thought.”

Instead of spiralling, you create space.
And in that space, your nervous system softens.

This is why journaling helps.
Why meditation helps.
Why reflective conversations feel grounding.

They gently move you out of autopilot and back into awareness.

And awareness is often where calm begins 💛
