It’s International Women’s Day, and we’re celebrating the incredible women who make Active Health what it is! The women who move, inspire, and make a difference in our community every day.

We asked them - “what does being a woman in health or sport mean to you?” and here’s what they had to say 🧡

We’re proud to celebrate the women helping shape the future of health, sport, and rehabilitation

🎉 She's BACK! A huge welcome back to Jill!

After her knee replacement late last year, she's back and better than ever! We've missed her and couldn't be happier to have her back! 🧡

It's Endometriosis Awareness Month 🧡 this year's theme is 'your story is shaping our future' and we want to be part of changing it.

For too long, endo has been dismissed, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood. The average diagnosis takes 8–10 years. That is not okay.

And even after diagnosis, so many women don't know that women's health physiotherapy can make a real difference to their quality of life.

Here's what Laura (our wonderful Women's & Pelvic Health physio) sees in the clinic regularly:
A pelvic floor that's been guarding against pain for years - holding tension it doesn't know how to release. This is called overactivity, and downtraining it can be genuinely life-changing.

Women's physio can also address:
✨ Bladder and bowel dysfunction
✨ Pain with s*x and daily movement
✨ Trigger points in the abdominal wall and pelvic floor
✨ Scar tissue mobility after surgery
✨ Building strength and returning to exercise with confidence
& more!

Your story matters. Sharing it - with your physio, your GP, your gynaecologist - is how we build better care for every woman who comes after you 🧡

Meet Ashleigh - you may have already seen her at our Thomas Rd clinic! ✨

After working with us as a sports medic last year, Ashleigh is now joining us for an 8-week placement as a 4th year physiotherapy student at Wintec, supervised by the brilliant Amanda.

We're proud to support the next generation of physios - welcome back! 🧡

Don't let last season's niggles become this season's problems 🏃‍♀️

Pre-season checks aren't just for your gear - your body needs a tune-up too. Our physios can assess movement patterns, check those lingering issues, and build a plan to keep you on the field all season long.

Start strong, not sidelined 💪🧡

We're excited to introduce Marley! With a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy), Marley works across vocational rehabilitation and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, bringing passion to paediatrics, sport, and helping clients get back to what matters most.

Marley's approach is all about tailoring treatment to each person's lifestyle and goals – finding practical, realistic solutions that help people overcome barriers and keep moving forward.

When she's not helping clients, you'll find Marley on the hockey field, out for a run, or indulging her creative side through baking and art.

We're thrilled to have Marley on board and can't wait for you to meet her 🧡

MYTH VS FACT 🤔

MYTH: If you leak urine, your pelvic floor muscles are weak
FACT: Your pelvic floor can leak for multiple reasons!

✨ Overactive/tight muscles - Sometimes pelvic floor muscles are TOO tense and can't relax properly, causing leakage
✨ Coordination issues - Muscles might be strong but not activating at the right time
✨ Intra-abdominal pressure - How you manage pressure matters as much as muscle strength
✨Muscle weakness - Yes, this CAN be a cause but it's not the only one!

The takeaway? Doing endless Kegels isn't always the answer. If you're experiencing leakage, see a pelvic floor physical therapist who can assess YOUR specific situation - like Laura!

Your pelvic floor deserves personalised care, not guesswork! 💪🧡

Guess who’s back in clinic!? ✨ Katy & Rebecca are back after an extended action packed holiday break!

They road tripped around the South Island, a few hikes, a festival, plenty of beautiful sites and good food, a friend from home visiting PLUS a sky dive!

We’re stoked to have them back in clinic with us and with you! 🧡

🏐 Exciting research news! Our own Barry and Amanda were co-authors (alongside others) on a recently published study exploring landing position mechanics in netball.

This research was part of Barry’s honours programme and investigated ACL injuries in netball players - a common concern in the sport. Using VALD force decks (the same technology we use in our clinics!), the team measured joint and knee forces during turns in the air.

Barry shares: “I’ve always been interested in netball, having coached and played for several years. When the opportunity arose during my honours studies to research ACL injuries in netball players, I jumped at the chance. It was fascinating to combine my passion for sports physiotherapy with my love of netball and jumping mechanics - and I learnt so much along the journey.”

Congratulations to Barry, Amanda, and the wider research team on this valuable contribution to netball safety and performance 🎉
