Behind the Care: Meet Myree 🌾

When the family farm was sold, Myree found herself at a crossroads. Nursing and caregiving had always been on her mind, so in 2021 she joined Marinoto as a Healthcare Assistant. Her natural empathy and strong work ethic quickly made her a trusted member of our team, and she soon grew into a Senior HCA.

For Myree, the best part of the job is the people:
“It’s the residents, my colleagues, and the atmosphere that make Marinoto such an enjoyable place to be.”

Myree perfectly reflects all of the MARINOTO values: Meaningful Care, Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, Openness, Trust & Outstanding Service.
She is consistent, a trusted team player, who often goes above and beyond for our wonderful residents and staff.

Myree is not just a caregiver, she’s a mentor, bringing warmth, patience, and wisdom to everyone around her and we're very blessed to have her on the team.

What have we been up to lately?.. more like what HAVEN'T we been up to lately! 😀
We've had fun and games, outings, guest speakers, wonderful musical performers, dog therapy visits, a great time out at the Inglewood Lions - NZ lunch and LOTS of ice cream. Lyn and the team have kept everyone entertained and busy.
We're looking forward to putting up the Christmas decorations tomorrow and getting into the festive spirit 🎄🎄

📢SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

🌟 Celebrating Our Local Heroes – The Valintine Family 🌟

The Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards honour New Zealanders who create positive change in their communities. We’re proud to share that our very own Valintine Family has been named one of the 100 TOWER LOCAL HERO MEDALLISTS for 2026.

For over 50 years, the Valintine family has been at the heart of Marinoto Home & Hospital Care and the Inglewood Welfare Society. Their legacy began in 1970 when Returned Serviceman W.B. (Bill) Valintine transformed the old Inglewood Maternity Home into a Rest Home. His wife Betty and their children all pitched in, laying the foundations of a true community legacy.

That dedication continues across generations, through Tom and Marian’s decades of governance and support, and Nikki’s practical, hands-on service, from kitchen upgrades to stepping in during COVID times.

We’re thrilled to see their lifelong commitment recognised nationally.

A big thank you Marie Riordan from Volunteering New Zealand for putting the Valintine family forward and for coming to present this wonderful medal on Sunday - it was very much a BIG surprise gathering and nomination for both Marian and Nikki, but a very special surprise it was.

Thank you to everyone who came and took part in the presentation of the medal, including our residents, staff, and the extended Valintine family and friends, and to the Inglewood Welfare Society for organising this lovely morning.

Ngā mihi nui to the Valintine family, true local heroes. 💛

Our Head Cook Jared, Joanne and the team do an amazing job preparing meals for our residents and Meals on Wheels customers.
Our residents always have such great feedback on the great food that arrives from our kitchen to their plates every day.
So, it's lovely to be able to share this review from Denis, another happy Meals on Wheels customer, giving the team the kudos they certainly deserve. Thanks so much Denis.

If you know someone who might benefit from having some freshly cooked meals straight to their door, check out this page https://www.marinotocare.co.nz/meals-on-wheels/

Back in 1971 Marinoto was opened by the honourable David Thomson. Today we were treated to some beautiful classical pieces on the piano by his son Bruce Thomson. So much talent that the lullabies sent a lot of people into dream land.

Can you name this song ?
