At Hospice Southland, we know the power of community — it’s what lifts us, sustains us, and reminds us that none of us carry life’s challenges alone.

That’s why we’re so proud to be part of this year’s Southland Community Challenge, alongside Active Southland, The Grace Street Project, and KiwiHarvest.

From January 12th to March 8th, 2026, Southlanders are coming together for two months of fun, fitness, and fundraising, supporting three local charities that make a real difference in our region.

If you are wanting to help out on the day check out the link on the Southland Student Volunteer Armys post below - This is an amazing opportunity for volunteers to make a real difference - keeping participants safe, supporting a major community event, and showing the impact of youth volunteering across Southland.

A huge thank you to Street Machines Southland Inc for their incredible donation of $3,000 to Hospice Southland!

The funds were raised through their annual Betta Inspect It Car & Bike Show, which brings together car and bike enthusiasts from across the region to celebrate their passion and give back to the community.

We’re so grateful for this generous support — it will go toward purchasing much-needed equipment to help us continue providing compassionate care for patients and families across Southland and the Wakatipu Basin.

To Doug Arthur and the entire Street Machines Southland team — thank you for proving once again that horsepower and heart go hand in hand.

Cruise 4 Care– Car Poker Run!

Get ready to hit the road for a great cause! Join us for our Cruise 4 Care Car Poker Run, where car lovers and community supporters come together to raise funds for Hospice Southland.

Enjoy a scenic Southland drive, test your luck with the best poker hand, and finish the day with great company, prizes, and plenty of laughs — all while supporting compassionate care in our community.
Date: Saturday 15th November
Start Time: Park up from 10am
Start Location: Waikiwi Tavern
Entry: $20 per car - $5 per poker hand

All proceeds go directly towards Hospice Southland care and support for patients and their families.

Total Life Invercargill in Full Bloom at Hospice Southland!

On Friday, we were delighted to welcome team Total Life Invercargill for their annual Volunteer Day — and what a difference they made!

The team spent the day working across our garden spaces, bringing fresh energy, care, and teamwork to the heart of our Hospice grounds. They also generously donated a new line trimmer to support the ongoing upkeep of our gardens — a thoughtful and practical contribution that will make a lasting impact.

We’re so grateful for the time, effort, and compassion shared by the Total Life team. Their kindness and connection truly reflect the values we hold close here at Hospice Southland — community, commitment, compassion, and connection.

Thank you, Total Life Invercargill, for living your values beyond the workplace and helping keep our spaces blooming for patients, whānau, and visitors alike.

We love finding ways to connect with tamariki in our community - and one of our favourite ways to do this is by inviting local schools to help us create something special for our Hospice Southland volunteers.

This year, our volunteers will receive beautiful, heartfelt Christmas cards made by students from Waihopai School, Winton School, and St John's Girls' School

With over 450 volunteers giving their time and care throughout the year, these thoughtful handmade cards are a wonderful reminder of how kindness and creativity can bring joy to others.

A huge thank you to all the students and teachers involved — your efforts truly help us share the spirit of the season!

Today our Hospice Southland Day Programme patients were given a very special treat — a warm welcome and guided tour of Invercargill’s stunning new Distinction Invercargill Hotel.

After exploring the beautiful spaces and learning more about this incredible addition to our city, everyone was treated to a divine lunch that truly topped off the day.

A huge thank you to the team at Distinction Hotel Invercargill for your kindness, hospitality, and generosity in making our patients feel so welcomed and celebrated.

Moments like these remind us how fortunate we are to live in such a caring community.

We were deeply honoured to have the IDEA Services Southland/Gore Kapa Haka rōpū perform for us this week at our Hospice Southland Day Programme . Your powerful waiata and haka brought such warmth, spirit, and connection to our Hospice whānau.

The presence of your team leaders wearing korowai made the occasion especially meaningful — a beautiful symbol of mana, tapu, and respect that we truly felt throughout your performance.

Ngā mihi nui for sharing your time, energy, and aroha with our patients, families, and staff. It was a privilege to have you with us.

A huge thank you to Cressida from Flowers and The Girl for so kindly offering to supply beautiful blooms for our onsite displays each week!

Our talented volunteer florist Jill has already worked her magic with the first delivery of beautiful Tulips - creating two stunning arrangements for our patients and families to enjoy.

It’s the continuous small acts of kindness and community connection like this that are vital ingredients in our Hospice Southland services and care.
