Nicol MacFarlane regaled residents at Peacehaven retirement village with stories of his school days as a pupil and later as a teacher. He also showed off his collection of school memorabilia, including ink a school bag and "The Strap" before sharing in school lunch themed refreshments with the residents. It was fun reminiscing.

There was a happy, positive vibe only children can bring when a group of pupils from St Theresa's School, Invercargill visited Vickery Court this afternoon.
For the past two terms, 75 children from the middle syndicate have been writing letters to pen pals in three care homes, including Vickery Court.
They visited today to drop off their final letters and meet their pen pals in person. Teacher Anna-Marie Middlemiss said through the activity the children had learned how to ask and respond to questions, further developing their conversational skills, but they had also benefited from the social connections they had made with the residents.
Residents Valda Mainland and Wilma Capil had thoroughly enjoyed connecting with their young pen pals.
Valda said there were no young children in her immediate family at the moment, so it was lovely to connect with her pen pal.
Wilma found out that her pen pal took dance classes with her grand-daughter.
“Finding out those family connections was just lovely.”
