Respect the Game. Respect Each Other. 💙💛

We recently teamed up with Southland District Rugby League to ask their community one simple question:

“What does respect the game mean to you?”

The answers reminded us why people fall in love with rugby league in the first place:
🏉 looking after your teammates
🏉 playing hard but fair
🏉 respecting the refs and volunteers
🏉 and remembering the game is bigger than any one of us.

At What About You Murihiku, we know strong clubs create strong communities. Promoting respect, safety and good sportsmanship helps protect the wellbeing of everyone involved in the game we love.

Massive thanks to the Southland District Rugby League whānau for sharing their voices.

What does “respect the game” mean to you?

What happens when you choose alcohol-free?

In Part 2, Hunter talks about:
• The surprises he experienced after giving up alcohol
• How it’s helped his focus in sport
• Some unexpected benefits along the way

Sometimes the biggest gains aren’t just on the scoreboard.

“What if you trained hard… and partied alcohol-free?”

For many student-athletes, alcohol can feel like part of the culture - especially around parties and after-match celebrations.

In Part 1 of our chat with Hunter, he shares:
• Why he chose to go alcohol-free
• The toughest part about being alcohol-free as a student-athlete
• How he handles situations where alcohol is expected

Everyone’s journey is different - but choosing what works for you takes confidence.

📣 International Stand Up to Bullying Day

Today we stand for kindness, respect and inclusion. Bullying - whether in person or online - affects our tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.

In Murihiku, we choose aroha, manaakitanga and connection. That means speaking up, supporting each other, and creating spaces where everyone feels safe and valued.

Let’s make kindness louder. 💛

Happy Waitangi Day!

Today we honour the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and celebrate the partnership between Māori and non‑Māori in Aotearoa. It’s a day to reflect on our shared history and look forward together.

To mark the day, we’re proud to share our Te Reo Māori wellbeing brochure, now available on our website. 🌿 It’s full of tips and resources to support your whānau’s wellbeing, in Te Reo Māori and English.
