If you’re in your 40’s, 50’s or early 60’s and suddenly feel like your body has changed overnight… you’re not imagining it.
Many women often tell me..
“I’m eating the same, exercising the same… but my weight, sleep, mood and energy have all changed.”
Often the reason is hormonal shifts, even small ones, during perimenopause and menopause. The good news is there are ways to support you and your body through this transition.
🌿 Hormones, Perimenopause & Menopause a conversation I often have with patients in clinic.
For many women, the hormonal transition into perimenopause, menopause and beyond can often feel overwhelming and confusing.
You may suddenly notice changes like:
• Hot flushes or night sweats
• Sleep, skin and vitality
• Mood changes or anxiety
• Memory and Brain fog
• Weight gain or stubborn weight
• Fatigue and low energy
• Changes in libido
These symptoms are usually linked to the natural decline in hormones like estrogen and progesterone.
But it’s important to note thst these hormones are only PART of the story. Your thyroid, adrenal glands, gut health, metabolism and stress levels all influence how smoothly your body moves through this transition.
This is also why some women experience very few symptoms, while others feel quite out of balance.
🌿 Hormone Therapy
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has traditionally been used to replace declining hormones and can help some women manage symptoms.
However it can involve trial and error to find the right dose, and it isn’t suitable or desirable for everyone.
Some women also prefer to explore natural or holistic approaches alongside or instead of hormone therapy.
🌿 Natural support options
You may have heard of herbal options such as:
• Black Cohosh
• Red Clover
• Chinese Herbs
• Soy-based compounds
These can sometimes help with symptom relief, particularly with things like hot flushes. However many of these remedies do not directly restore hormone levels, which is why a broader approach to health is important.
🌿 Why hormones affect so many areas of health
Hormones influence much more than reproduction.
They play important roles in:
• Heart and cardiovascular health
• Bone density and skin health
• Cholesterol balance
• Mood and brain function
• Metabolism and body weight
• Vitalty and levels
Before menopause women generally have a lower risk of heart disease than men. After menopause that risk increases significantly due to the loss of protective hormones. This is why many women notice changes in cholesterol, blood pressure and weight even when their diet and exercise habits have not changed.
🌿 Stress, metabolism and hormones
Hormones are closely connected with the body’s metabolic system. Yes!! this is why excess weight can become a real battle!!
The thyroid and adrenal glands also play important roles in supporting hormonal balance regulating:
• Energy
• Stress tolerance
• Blood sugar balance
• Weight regulation and so much more!
When stress levels are high or metabolism becomes dysregulated it can contribute to symptoms such as fatigue, inflammation, insulin resistance and stubborn weight gain. Very commonly women often feel anxious, wired and tired or exhausted with low mood!
🌿 Lifestyle makes a huge difference
One of the most encouraging things we now understand is that diet and lifestyle play a major role in how women experience menopause.
Supporting your body with..
• nourishing whole REAL food
• balanced meals with protein and healthy fats
• regular movement and strength training
• nourishing sleep
• stress management
• targeted nutritional support
All of the above can all help to dramatically improve how the body adapts to hormonal change. Maintaining lean muscle mass is also incredibly important for metabolic health and longevity.
🌿 Nutrition and hormone balance
One of the most powerful ways to support hormonal health is through balanced nutrition.
This is why in my clinic I often prescribe the Metabolic Balance programme, which uses your blood chemistry to create a personalised nutritional plan designed to restore metabolic and hormonal balance.
When we are metabolically balanced women notice improvements in..
• Energy and vitality
• Healthy weight balance
• Sleep
• Mood
• Cravings
• Hormonal symptoms
🌿 Supporting your hormones naturally
Its important to note that - ‘Hormonal Wellbeing’
is rarely about just one thing.
It usually involves looking at the whole picture including nutrition, metabolic health, gut health, stress and adrenal function, sleep, movement and targeted supplementation where needed. When these areas are addressed together women often regain energy, balance and vitality.
🌿 If you’re experiencing symptoms of hormonal change, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
