Insight alone doesn’t always create movement. Sometimes we see the pattern clearly and hope that, just by noticing it, something will shift. But awareness doesn’t instantly soften what’s been familiar for a long time. Familiarity has weight. Even painful patterns can feel strangely comforting when they’re known. They can offer predictability, a sense of identity, and a feeling of safety. Often, the nervous system chooses what’s familiar before it’s ready to choose what’s freeing.
