Just another exciting weekend for Mission Physio completing the integrated acupuncture with manual therapy course. Two great physiotherapists Jillian McDowell teaching Mulligan concepts (manual hands on therapy) and Susan Kohut with her amazing knowledge in Western acupuncture, thank you lady's we had a blast and using them in clinic getting some great results. 👌

Business owner of Mission Physio is Sarah Wagstaffe BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy; Certified Clinical Pilates Instructor and Acupuncturist.

Sarah graduated with honours from Salford University, Greater Manchester in the UK and has over 20 years experience in her chosen field. Now an exciting new venture, to start her own clinical physiotherapy practice, Mission Physio in Kerikeri.

Sarah has worked within the NHS and private sector in the UK working within out-patients musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy. Also, has experience working within acute stroke rehabilitation, general orthopaedics, paediatrics and within acute respiratory HDU and ICU.

Successfully completing a two-year course and final examinations in the UK as a registered member of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine (S.O.M). This course was based on specific soft tissue transverse frictions, spinal mobilisation and manipulation. Assessment, diagnosis and treatment application to all joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Finally injection therapy technique to the soft tissues and joints, (injection therapy is used by physiotherapists in the UK not in NZ).

Sarah is also a physiotherapy acupuncturist and has been practicing her western acupuncture for 18 years. This treatment is extremely affective for helping with reducing pain and inflammation of joints spinal and peripheral. It can also help with relaxation, sleep and management of stress. Acupuncture has been recognised by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence in the UK to be beneficial for non- specific lower back pain conditions.

There she continued her training in clinical based Pilates, becoming a Certified Physiotherapy Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI) in London. Pilates plays a major role in assessment of movement patterning and function, helping identify any specific areas of instability. Any adapted abnormal movement patterns can be identified and corrected with Physiotherapy based Pilates exercises. There are plans of starting small group sessions for specific strengthening and conditioning training.

Sarah furthered her specialty in manual therapy skills by gaining her Certificate of Manual Therapy (C.O.M.T) at the A.U.T with the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapy Association (NZMPA). This course gave emphasis on assessment, diagnosis and manual/manipulative treatment techniques for conditions of the musculoskeletal system. This was run over a two year period and was yet another excellent clinically based course, which gave the latest evidence based practice.
