Our October Mountain Experience Course participants got the full mountain experience and turned adversity into opportunity!
The crew had to contend with over 200 mm of rain, plus gale-to-hurricane force winds at times. They still managed to pack in a wealth of learning and adventure into 5 unforgettable days at Aoraki, no small thanks to guide Chris and his many innovative backup plans.

After 11 Days of bad weather, and 2 metres of new snow, it was fantastic for our glacier guiding team to be back on the Tasman Glacier yesterday!
The weather for this weekend looks perfect for a helihike. Come on up!

The weather’s been wild in the NZ mountains lately — strong westerlies and heavy rain keeping us on our toes 🌧️💨

After some adventurous 4WDing, we made our way to a private hut with a fireplace 🔥

Climbed a peak called The Weasel, checked out the glacier in strong winds, and even went for a refreshing river swim 💪❄️

Nothing beats coming back to a warm, cosy hut at the end of the day.

First Turns of the Season! ❄️⛷️

In mid-May, our guide team headed out for an early backcountry ski mission to check on snow conditions.

Since then, temperatures have dropped significantly and snow has continued to fall steadily—conditions are shaping up beautifully.

Early season is one of the best times for powder skiing, with cold temperatures and a low sun angle helping to keep the snow light and dry.

That said, the mountain huts can be very cold this time of year. We recommend bringing two down jackets if you have them, along with down pants and booties for staying warm and comfortable.
