π From the 1st of February some people may be eligible to have their regular, long-term, stable medications prescribed for 12 months.
π The decision to have a 12-month prescription rests solely with the person who prescribes the medicine ('writes' the prescription). It is not up to the pharmacist.
π Check with your prescriber if you are eligible based on the criteria they have set at their practice.
π Pharmacies will still dispense in 3-month lots, even with a 12-month prescription. This is stated in the new legislation. You cannot collect all 12-months at once, only 3 months at a time.
π If you usually pay the $5 government tax per item for new prescriptions you will only pay this once at the start of your 12 month prescription.
πThere is no change with the dispensing of restricted supply medicines and controlled drugs (including ADHD medications). These will still be dispensed monthly or more frequently as the law dictates β just as they are now.
π We appreciate your patience and understanding while we navigate this new law change.
