UPDATE:
The Heavy Swell Warning is still in effect for Wairarapa, covering the area from Turakirae Head to Mataikona. The warning period now extends from 9am, Friday 27th December, to 8am, Saturday 29th December.

Please take care near the coastline, avoid risky activities, and ensure you stay informed.

🌊 HEAVY SWELL WARNING – Wairarapa from Turakirae Head to Mataikona ⚠️ 🌊

MetService has issued a Heavy Swell Warning for Turakirae Head to Mataikona from 10am Friday the 27th to 10am Saturday the 29th of December.

South to southwest combined waves are expected to rise to 6 metres on Friday and ease below warning criteria on Saturday.

⚠️ These swells could bring debris and surface flooding to roads, especially around high tide.
👉Take care walking or driving along roads exposed to the sea during this time.
👉Surfers, divers, recreational reef fishers/surfcasters should be extra cautious and avoid exposed locations.
👉If you are planning on heading out into the water, check the marine forecast before you do, and if in doubt, do not go.

The highest risk period is typically at or within 1-2 hours of high tide. For areas between Turakirae Head to Mataikona, this is between 1pm and 5:30pm on Friday the 27th and 1:30am and 5:30am on Saturday the 28th.

Kia ora whānau, if you had not been aware Dr Dougal Thorburn passed away suddenly two weeks. He worked for us in 2019 and through the COVID period, and had formed meaningful connections with both patients and staff at Huchs.

There will be a memorial service/pō whakamoemiti this Saturday 21 September at 3.00 pm. Venue: Lower Hutt Town Hall, 32 Laings Road, Lower Hutt, 5010.

This pō whakamoemiti offers a chance to gather, connect, reflect and share songs and stories. You invited to wear bright colours, learn waiata and bring a native plant as a contribution to the restoration mahi at Te Raekaihau that was so dear to Dougal's heart.
