Many different factors contribute to the downfall our youth are facing. Whether it be personal, lack of resources or just environmental issues within the community, life can be hard to navigate. More and more youth of today are heading down paths that could be avoided with a helping hand to guide them to a better, more positive future. Although amazing work is being done within organizations in the public health sector for mental health, I also believe that a major issue our youth are facing today, is the lack of something to focus their energy on, something to strive for, a goal. With “The Tukshp” project, Young New Zealanders will find a place of understanding, a working program to gain new skills, help them rehabilitate into the workforce and incentives to help them succeed. Many years ago, I was wandering a self-destructive path. Someone with compassion and understanding, took my hand and guided me down a more positive pathway by giving me a fulltime job which led me to change my whole outlook on life starting with what direction I wanted my life to follow. Now, it’s come the time to give back and help today’s youth walk that same positive path, to show them that their destiny hasn’t been written yet and to help give them more confidence to face life’s challenges, so they too can take the steps to make a difference in their own lives. Life is tough enough without mental health, and it can take just one helping hand to pull you out of the darkness to make that change that is needed to succeed.
“The Tukshp” project is a chain of coffee carts devoted to employing youth aged 13-17, who need a job to help them either rehabilitate into work or help stabilize their personal circumstances.
“That Coffee Chick Ltd” will help employ local youth within “The Tukshp” project to give back, help the youth in local communities and help them see a brighter outcome for their future.
