We wanted to let you know that there has been measles detected at two Wellington schools. Measles is a highly contagious illness that can spread quickly among people who are not fully vaccinated.
To protect yourself and your family, please make sure you are up to date with your measles vaccinations. Most people are protected after two doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine, babies start their MMR vaccines at 12 months.
Be alert for measles symptoms, which can include:
Fever
Cough, runny nose, or red eyes
A blotchy red rash (usually starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body)
If you or your child develop these symptoms Stay at home and avoid contact with others, especially babies, pregnant women, or anyone with a weakened immune system.
