➰ Breathing - Stress⠀

Stress can effect internal/inspiration and external/exhalation. ⠀
⠀
When our bodies are stressed from a negative response to change in circumstances where by you have limited control. A build up of emotions can happen.. emotionally, physically and psychologically. ⠀
⠀
A common response to stress is upper chest breathing causing an imbalance in our oxygen consumption. Meaning you are only mostly only using 20% of your accessory muscle (upper chest) to breathe, leaving the other 80% (diaphragm) unused. ⠀

How is your breath right now? ⠀
⠀
Our bodies need oxygen for many reasons but a huge one is to help burn fuel in our cells transported by red blood cells to produce energy, helping to provide the basic building blocks that our bodies need to survive. ⠀

Research has shown that breathing exercises like these can have immediate effects by altering the pH of the blood, or changing blood pressure. But more importantly, they can be used as a method to train the body's reaction to stressful situations and dampen the production of harmful stress hormones.⠀

When breathing in different breath ratios, we are changing the amount of time that we take to inhale, hold, and exhale the breath. In general, we breathe in an equal breath ratio - equal inhale, equal exhale. ⠀

Consciously using different breath ratios can yield varied effects creating a deep sense of well-being and harmony on physical, mental and emotional levels. ⠀
