E te kaahui aarriki o te whakarua kaakaa aariki.
Maa koutou te aariki e manaaki tonu atu,
Aianei ake nei,
Koutou ngaa taonga whakahirahira,.
Tangi ana te mapu ki a tuahangata,
Tangi ana te mapu ki a tuawahine,
E te Mareikura, e Sharon
Ka heke te hupe, ka heke te roimata,
Maringi noa, Maringi noa,
Haere atu raa, haere atu raa, haere atu raa!
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sharon Hawke — a truly special woman whose life was dedicated to standing strong for her people, her whenua, and the wellbeing of whaanau. From her early days walking alongside leaders during the historic land movements, Sharon carried that same commitment to justice, mana, and hauora throughout her life.
Her passion for kaupapa Maaori and community wellbeing resonates deeply with the work we do, and we acknowledge the impact she has had across generations.
Just a few weeks ago, we had the privilege of seeing Sharon again at our 30-year celebration. It was a quiet reminder of the connections we share — moments of koorero, presence, and aroha that we will now hold even more closely.
Sharon, thank you for your strength, your voice, and your unwavering belief in our people. Your legacy lives on in the many lives you have touched.
Te puna aroha, e kore e mimiti, Te wai koropupuu, e kore e tau, moe mai i roto i te korowai o te rangimaarie.
Aroha tino nui to your whaanau, friends, and wider community during this time.
