ACNE

It’s something that just about every single one of us experience at some point of our lives, in some form (whether it be a few pimples at puberty, full blown acne in your 20’s or perimenopausal skin). It’s a reflection of what is going on internally, so to truely address it and see long term results - a multi faceted approach is needed. What is going on with your gut health, your liver, stress from work, what are you eating, are you getting enough sleep….. ? we need to look at it all. Above are some of my top tips to start addressing the root cause of your acne.

Hi! Wowsers! It’s been a while since I have been on here! But I’ve always been here, just working away and not posting 🫣 ! For new followers to the page, I’m Helen the owner and chief Naturopath at Alive Natural Health! This was one of my most recent work photos, however when you meet me, I’ll have an awesome new bob hairstyle 💁🏼‍♀️

I have a passion for helping people with all kinds of issues, but I especially love to help women in the hormone space (acne, hormone imbalances, peri & menopause), men & women with gut issues, people experiencing stress and anxiety and skin issues.

I have lived in Mount Maunganui now for 7 years (wow!) and consider this beautiful little town home (for now..). I live here with hubby, my two kids and my cat 🐱

About me…. I love warm weather (and struggle with winter), I love the beach, sushi, smoothie bowls and dark chocolate. I Love to travel, and although I like small town living with my family, I love the energy of a big city and miss it a lot.

I am passionate about health, so if you need support in the health space - get in touch!

🌟 Boost Your Immunity with These Simple Tips! 🌟

In these challenging times, it's crucial to prioritize our health and strengthen our immune system. So, I've gathered some easy and effective tips to help you boost your immunity naturally.

1️⃣ Eat a Rainbow 🌈: Fill your plate with a variety of colorful fruits and veggies. They are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support your immune system. Think vibrant berries, leafy greens, citrus fruits, and colourful peppers!

2️⃣ Stay Hydrated 💦: Water is the elixir of life! Hydration is key to maintaining a strong immune system. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day, and don't forget herbal teas count towards your 8 glasses!

3️⃣ Get Moving 🏃‍♀️: Regular exercise not only keeps you fit but also boosts your immune system. Whether it's a brisk walk, yoga, or dancing to your favorite tunes, find an activity that brings you joy and get those endorphins flowing!

4️⃣ Prioritize Sleep 😴: Quality sleep is essential for a healthy immune system. Aim for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Create a relaxing bedtime routine, switch off screens, and create a cozy sleep environment to ensure a restful night's sleep.

5️⃣ Manage Stress 🧘‍♀️: Chronic stress can weaken your immune system. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, journaling, or indulging in hobbies that bring you joy.

6️⃣ Supplement Smartly 💊: While a balanced diet is key, certain supplements can provide an extra boost. Book a consultation to determine if you need any specific supplements, but Vitamin A, C, D, & Zinc are a good place to start to support your immune system.

7️⃣ Herbal Tonics 🌿: herbs such a echinacea, pelargonium, andrographis and ginger all support the immune system in prevention and treatment of infections, such as cold and flu. Visit my online dispensary to purchase.

Remember, building a strong immune system is a journey, not an overnight fix. Consistency is key!

Let's prioritize our health!

One of the most important things to do is get that stress under control and regulate the HPA Axis.

A simple first step is:

👊🏻Take magnesium: it’s a stress reliever, it helps to calm the brain, regulates HPA Axis, promotes sleep.

👊🏻Taurine: also calms the brain and stabilses the HPA axis. Works like GABA (your calming neurotransmitter). Only in animal products. Take with magnesium - these work beatifically together.

👊🏻B6: for PMS and mood swings. Promotes healthy estrogen metabolism and boosts GABA. Don’t over do it.

🌿 Withania is a wonderful herb, with so many amazing properties. It helps to stabilise the HPA axis, Its anti-anxiety and sleep promoting.

Pair these with a whole foods Mediterranean diet and a walk in nature - you’ve done yourself a big favour.

Consult your health care practitioner on what’s right for you and to support you with dosing.

PROSTAGLANDINS & PERIOD PAIN

Prostaglandins control many bodily processes such as inflammation, blood flow, clots, the induction of labour - and also menstrual cramping during our periods.

Excessive prostaglandins due to chronic inflammation lead to extreme uterine contractions, causing dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Prostaglandins also stimulate and contract the digestive tract also, causing loose stools premenstrually or during your period. These are signs you’re out of balance.

Start by making simple dietary changes:

❌ reduce inflammatory foods - sugar, processed foods, refined carbohydrates
❌Too much alcohol
❌ Too much coffee (more than 1 a day)
❌Food allergies - gluten & dairy the biggest culprits
❌Overconsumption of Omega-6 fatty acids - margarine, vegetable oil, canola oil, sunflower oil.

Eat more -
✔️anti inflammatory foods - salmon, fish, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed meal, h**p
✔️At least 5 cups of non-starchy vegetables a day
✔️2 pieces of fresh fruit
✔️a diet huh in antioxidants - eat the colour of the rainbow 🌈
✔️include foods such as ginger and turmeric which as anti inflammatory
✔️30g fibre per day - to keep the bowels healthy and eliminate excess estrogen
✔️reduce alcohol and smoking

Try taking magnesium (biglycinate) and zinc.
