Patrols are in full swing at but this brilliant weather has brought super hot black sand with it. The sand can get so hot that you can burn your feet on it.

What a weekend!

Congratulations to our 2 x newest lifeguards - Tori and Jake, Huge thanks to Wayne Sutton, Georgia Ward and Emma Chapman for guiding the group of 15 or so through their SLA this season. Also thanks to Faron Turner at ลŒrewa Surf Life Saving Club and the other examiners for making the SLA happen yesterday.

Secondly, on Saturday, 20 new IRB Crew (10 x Muriwai/10 x Red Beach) attended training at Red Beach Surf Lifesaving Club under the instruction of Tim, Rob and Brendan. Then relocating to Muriwai on Sunday for the crew exam. This was completed in some great surf conditions. All candidates passed successfully. Thanks to Bryce, Caleb and Brendan for examining.

The weekend put on great conditions and the patrols were kept busy.

To top it off, the SAR squad and some other lifeguards still in the area, even turned up to an alert although the location turned out to be . Sounds like the Bethells crew did a great job.

What a fabulous Start-of-Season Kickoff Party we had on Sunday evening!

Exceptional weather, an awesome turnout, and the lamb on the spit was absolutely delicious.

It was fantastic to see everyone getting together - connecting, laughing, and gearing up for another great season at Muriwai.

It was an excellent opportunity for our lifeguarding community to reconnect and begin the season on a positive note.

On Saturday, 9 x senior surf athletes participated in the Surf Life Saving Northern Region 'All In' at .

Conditions were challenging but everyone had a good time and a lot of lessons were learned.

Shout out to the NR officials and event water safety team (yeah, we see you Caleb, Finn and Jaime).

Also huge thanks to Heidi (Manager), and our coaches - Matt, Ethan, Maya, Kaiha and Mark.

It's all go at Muriwai Beach tomorrow.

Board, ski and swim racing gets underway at this Saturday.

Event starts at: 10:00am

Come on down and cheer on the senior competitors.

Volunteers will be running a food tent near the lifeguard tower. Cold drinks, energy drinks and then sausages from 11am.

Patrol 2 is on with flags up from 10am to 4pm.

Muriwai Volunteer Lifeguard Service patrols Muriwai Beach, based on Auckland's wild west coast, every weekend between Labour Weekend and Easter. We also maintain a 24/7/365 Emergency Callout Squad of local and experienced lifeguards able to respond to Police 111 Callouts. We routinely top the lifeguarding statistics for the country as we take a proactive stance toward public safety and swiftly respond to emergencies.
