A wee ramble and what's on...
Taking a soft, well worn shirt through a makeover today, starting with buttons. I'm always surprised by how much of a difference buttons make. Lately it's been the little things making a difference, particularly not waiting for something to be a big job. Little pieces add up - a bucket of weeds, a room dusted, a cupboard cleaned. Like this shirt, it takes time, but breaking it into smaller pieces makes it doable and stops the little things climbing on top of and feeling insurmountable.

Hearth and Soul has room for massages/healing/Soul Chats on Thursday, Friday and Sunday this week. There's also room for some online goodness with check-in sessions - $35 and dropped into your inbox of choice as an audio recording.

It was a huge weekend for the Taking Yoga Deeper crew, so recovery and integration time for me this week. There's a couple of spaces open Friday afternoon at 1 and 3 for massage/tarot/soul chat - otherwise I'm taking bookings for Sunday and next week.

Each week there is a personal reading from me in your inbox - a little 20 minute snapshot that is also a teaching tool as I encourage you to read the cards with me. That's 6 readings, 6 weeks of tarot video goodness and the notes. This offering is an ongoing one so you can tap into it at any time of the year - I'm just introducing it here.

Then I'll be off to the beautiful event - Arohanui Market. It's a lovely collection of healers and wellbeing crew gathering at 11 Cathedral Lane in Napier. I'll be playing the singing bowls in the chill zone in the afternoon. Come and say hi, book in with one of the healers, or simply sit and chill out.

It's snuck up on me this month, as in it's Wednesday night THIS WEEK!
6-8pm with cacao and Monty and all the goodness of gathering in circle. The theme is integrating the year of the snake, getting ready for the Fire Horse. It's welcoming our new skin and thinking about intentions. What are we putting into action for the lunar New Year? How can the cards help?

Words for 2026 from our wonderful tarot crew last Wednesday. We spoke them into circle, we spoke them again and each word popped as if it was just waiting to arrive. I love words for this reason, how they can capture, synthesize, inspire and carry a whole vibe in a collection of letters.

Hearth and Soul sheds her first skin, the first year of being, the year of the snake integrating this moon. Directions shift subtley and I find my love of massage coming to the centre more: Healing hands: The nurturing that happens on the table.

I had a moment, a young New York lad who'd had massages around the world, arrived on my table. (I contract to one of the spa here in Hawkes Bay). He was used to sports massage, expected pain, and as the massage finished he spoke of never experiencing a 'no flinch' massage. I explained how I worked layer by layer to where his body was ready to get to. He said he felt like jelly and I said that's the point. He looked amazed and I felt a little sad. I took that sadness with me and turned it this way and that - sometimes we haven't experienced hands that listen, that work slowly, that nourish. Sometimes we haven't experienced touch that feels good but wants nothing from us - not s #% not response, not pain, just the quiet peace of our nervous system slowing down.

The tarot still calls with her wisdom and depth, the insights that elude us until they are there and we go 'oh, I kind of knew that', leading us back to ourselves. I'll simplify what I offer as the Fire Horse approaches and let the wild fiery energy help me create year two of Hearth and Soul.

It's Cacao and Tarot night on Wednesday. 6-8pm . We're exploring the conversations the cards have, drawing different pairings and maybe getting to a group of three cards along the way. Sunday ramble...
'Look,' my companion paused to point: A beach find, stones already stacked, waving in the breeze, delicately balanced. We pause, an image collected, captured, reflecting. What other beauty do we pass by and not notice?
This morning I pulled a plant in the vegetable patch only to find an avocado stone attached. Potted up, it sits under the bay tree, all its future avocado waiting in its slim form.
These two experiences set a tone for Hearth and Soul for 2026 - of noticing and tending, beauty and potential, pausing and nourishing. I'm so looking forward to the shift to the year of the Fire Horse - more on that soon.

In the December chaos, a 50 minute break from the hustle and bustle. Starting with making a nest, you are guided to find the intention to rest and to set any other intention you might have for the session. It's a beautiful permission to let your body relax while your mind stays active enough to take a journey. The crystal singing bowls fill in the background, a sound vibration that helps the mind gently shift gears.

Nidra was designed for busy minds, understanding that trying to meditate within busy-ness is near impossible. Nidra allows you to slowly move towards meditation rather than trying to drop straight in. By the time you reach that part of the journey, you may have fallen asleep and that's fine, or you may find yourself simply held by the sound of the bowls.

The place of intention in the practice is important - your intention is a place to return to if you find yourself distracted. Natasha also brings one with her in case that's one too many things for your mind. This week it is a peace mantra - Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu - May all beings everywhere be happy and free.
