I took this photo in the local Paperplus store the day before the General Election... it was an omen! There's one thing you can say about Winston; he has always been a great supporter of older people. My 'Christmas blog' has a particular focus on older people at Christmas; you can read it here:

It's Gumboot Friday again! This is the fundraiser for I AM HOPE to provide young people with FREE, TIMELY and LIFE-SAVING support and counselling. A statement by Mike King has long chilled me and prompted me to share this personal experience of having to tell someone that the help promised isn't coming. Read the blog here, and make a donation if you can.

People who know me have asked "How was your time in East Timor?" When I reply that, to coin a phrase, 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...' they usually add "But it wouldn't have been too bad - it was only peace keeping wasn't it?" Well, it turns out peace keeping can involve a lot of guns... Check out my blog here:

My second blog deals with Denial and that shock of "Oh no, it can't be true". I wrote it a few weeks ago and since then I've had another one of those moments hearing the news of Cal Wilson's passing. Cal was part of the Comedy Company who toured the NZDF bases in East Timor, and I was lucky enough to host them for what were some surprisingly deep and meaningful moments. More about that in later posts, but first here's the link to the blog...

Vale Cal Wilson. We are devastated to share the news that Cal Wilson, the much-loved stand up comedian, writer and actor died today, surrounded by family and friends in hospital after a short illness.

Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community.

It was great to join Coastal View Lifestyle Village staff, residents and guests for their 'Blue September Breakfast' fundraiser last week, in support of Prostate Cancer Month. There was no shortage of blue, and the blue chocolate strawberries were spectacular. I stayed on as a guest to speak about my own journey. I've written a blog for Blue September as well, and you can see it by clicking the link:

It's fair to say life has had some unexpected and significant twists and turns for me since I last posted - last year! I was all set to launch a new service offering mental health support, fitted around my Driving Miss Daisy work. Instead, I took on a full-time role as a funeral director, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had surgery, recovered, and went on a much-needed holiday with my number one supporter Tracey. The photo here is taken at the top of the Arc de Triomphe; but there's plenty of time for travel stories later! As for now, the funeral directing didn't quite go as planned, I'm happily back in the Daisy team, and I've been able to allow time for some freelance writing, as well as returning to my counselling work. Watch this space as things take shape!

It was great to catch up with Mike King this week; (We met in East Timor, of all places - but that's a story for another time!) I got to meet the 'I Am Hope' team too, visiting Nelson schools with their mental health presentations - bullying, and the importance of being able to talk about feelings are high on the agenda. Inspirational for young and old alike, thanks team.

Hello again, world! My intention to get my LARC service ‘airborne’ has had to be juggled with our business ("Driving Miss Daisy") and my post-graduate studies in Professional Supervision. Now that I have successfully completed the first part of that course, I can devote more energy to LARC, and I'm looking forward to sharing some of my stories and experiences with you through this page.
