Reflux & Colic in Babies
If your baby cries after feeds, arches their back, spits up frequently, or struggles to settle — you’re not alone. Reflux and colic are common challenges for new parents, and they can leave everyone feeling exhausted and helpless.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we offer gentle cranial osteopathy to support babies’ digestion and comfort. These soft techniques may help release tension in the diaphragm, neck, and abdomen that can affect how well your baby feeds, swallows, and processes food.

Reflux isn’t just about the tummy — it can be linked to birth position, fast labours, or tight neck muscles. Osteopathy takes a whole-body view to support your baby’s ability to feed, settle, and sleep.

Parents often say they notice changes after just a few treatments: easier burping, less fussing, and longer naps. We work gently and respectfully — always following baby’s lead.

What Is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to healthcare that supports the body’s ability to heal itself. At Osteopathy Nelson, we don’t just treat symptoms — we look deeper to understand the root cause of discomfort, whether it’s in your spine, muscles, joints, digestion, or nervous system.

Osteopaths use gentle manual techniques — like soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, and cranial therapy — to improve movement, reduce pain, and restore function. We work with babies, children, teens, and adults of all ages to create personalised care plans that support your body, your life, and your goals.

You don’t need a referral to see us, and you don’t need to be in severe pain. Osteopathy is effective for everyday tension, posture strain, injury recovery, and preventative care.

Whether you’re navigating stress, recovering from injury, managing migraines, or simply feeling “off,” our team is here to help you feel more connected to your body.

From Headaches to Heartburn
Think osteopathy is just for back pain? Think again.

Our osteopaths treat the whole body — because everything is connected. That means we often help patients with symptoms they didn’t expect osteopathy could improve, like:

🌀 Headaches & jaw pain
💥 Migraines & TMJ issues
🫁 Rib tightness or shallow breathing
🥴 Digestive discomfort, reflux, or bloating
💫 Brain fog, dizziness, and post-concussion symptoms

Sometimes the source of pain isn’t where you feel it. Neck tension could be triggering your jaw pain. Poor posture could be compressing your diaphragm and affecting your gut. A fall you had years ago may be contributing to your migraines today.

Our job is to assess the chain reaction — and then gently unwind it.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we tailor each treatment to your unique story. And because we spend 45 minutes with you, we can go deeper than just the surface-level symptoms.

“That Pain Down the Back of Your Leg?”
If you feel a burning, aching, or electric pain travelling from your lower back down into your leg — that might be sciatica.

But here’s the thing: sciatica is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we take time to find the cause. It could be a disc irritation, tight glute muscles, inflammation, or nerve entrapment — and each needs a different approach.

Our osteopaths use hands-on treatment to ease pressure on the sciatic nerve, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility in the spine, hips, and pelvis. We also give gentle home-based movement tips to support healing.

You don’t have to keep stretching it or hoping it goes away. Let’s find out what your body is trying to say.

“Let the Shoulders Drop”
When was the last time you fully let go? Not just in your mind — but in your shoulders, jaw, belly, and breath?

Our massage patients often arrive carrying invisible loads: decision fatigue, deadlines, unspoken worries. Over time, the body tenses to cope. Muscles tighten. The breath shortens. Sleep becomes shallow.

Massage therapy offers a chance to undo that quiet bracing. Through safe, therapeutic touch, we invite your body to soften — not just temporarily, but as part of a deeper return to balance.

Helga-Marion’s patients often say her touch feels grounding, warm, and gently releasing. You don’t need to explain everything. You can simply arrive, and let the healing begin.

This is your space to drop the shoulders… and maybe the weight of the week, too.

“Snacking on Stretches”
You don’t need an hour-long class to feel better in your body. Try “movement snacks” throughout your day — shoulder rolls at your desk, a hip stretch while the kettle boils, or standing up and breathing deeply.

Motion is lotion. These mini resets add up — and help prevent stiffness, stress, and strain.

We’re happy to show you stretch snacks that suit your body best. Ask us at your next visit.

Gentle Osteopathy for Big Feelings
Did you know that emotions can affect the body — and vice versa?

At Osteopathy Nelson, we often support clients who carry tension from stress, overwhelm, and emotional challenges. The nervous system and musculoskeletal system are deeply connected. That’s why when we treat the body gently, the mind often finds relief too.

For some, this may feel like soft cranial techniques around the head and spine. For others, it might involve gentle joint or diaphragm releases. Our goal is always to bring the body out of “fight or flight” and into rest, recovery, and calm.

We also see many children whose emotions show up as tummy aches, headaches, sleep struggles, or behavioural shifts. These are not “just in the mind” — they’re real signs of a nervous system needing care.

Osteopathy isn’t counselling. But it can be a beautiful companion to emotional support, helping the body release held tension and find regulation.

If you or your child are feeling wound-up, overwhelmed, or stuck — come and explore how gentle touch can help shift the body’s story.

🧠 We treat with care, time, and trust.

“Make Breath Your Best Friend”
Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly. That’s self-care in action.

Breathing deeply calms your nervous system, releases tension, and brings you back to the present moment. When pain or stress builds up, returning to your breath can help reset your body’s stress response.

Ask us to show you simple breath-based tools — they're easy to learn and powerful to use.

Why 45-Minute Appointments Matter
At Osteopathy Nelson, we choose to offer longer 45-minute sessions. Why? Because your health deserves time.

Time to listen.
Time to assess.
Time to treat thoroughly.
Time to explain what’s happening in your body.
Time to give you exercises or ideas to take home.

Many clinics squeeze sessions into 15–30 minutes. That can work in some settings, but we believe healing isn’t a race. A longer appointment gives us space to look at the big picture — not just the sore spot.

Whether you're coming in for low back pain, post-concussion recovery, or your baby's latch difficulties, we want you to feel heard, respected, and supported. No rush. No pressure. Just a safe space to focus on your wellbeing.

These longer sessions also allow us to treat multiple areas in one visit — for example, addressing hip pain and posture, or jaw tension and stress.

Time = better outcomes. Time = real care.

“Hydration Is Healing”
Water is often overlooked — but staying hydrated helps your muscles recover, your joints stay supple, and your nervous system regulate.

Try starting your day with a big glass of water before coffee. Add lemon or herbal tea if you like a little flavour.

💧 Small steps matter. Your tissues will thank you.
