Barrett Street Hospital

We've seen a few posts from people breaking into the hospital.
Please don't.
The place is about to be demolished. The entire place is filled with black mould, rats, and the floor boards are disintegrating.
I know that breaking in seems exciting, but you're putting your health at risk. You will get sick, or injured, by going through the buildings.

A fire that broke out at the old Barrett St hospital is already being treated as suspicious.

The hospital has been surrounded by "Danger Asbestos" tape, gates have been erected around the buildings, and asbestos removal has begun.
A few break ins have occurred during this time, and protective coverings have been ripped off by those breaking in. Those protective covers are keeping the most dangerous asbestos areas safe, and are there for a reason.
Please, for your own safety, leave the hospital alone.

Hi all,
The demolition will be begin later this month, commencing with the asbestos removal. The Nurses Mansion will remain, as it is a heritage building.

The Nurses Mansions sister, in Nelson, that has now been demolished.

Dalton House is a significant part of Nelson's social history and should not be torn down, say the Historic Places Trust.
