Workplace cancer risks are more common than most people realise.
A 2021 WorkSafe survey found that 58% of New Zealand workers are exposed to at least one carcinogen at work, with solar UV radiation being the second most common. These exposures contribute to nearly one-third of work-related harm and roughly 650 deaths annually from cancer and respiratory diseases.
With cancer diagnoses projected to skyrocket by 50% over the next two decades, protecting workers from preventable exposure has never been more critical.
