🌸 О̄torohanga Garden Ramble – this Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November 🌿

We’re delighted to be part of this year’s local King Country Garden Ramble, with one of the featured gardens being our very own Papakāinga Homestead - a truly special space that beautifully combines design, nature, and community.

Enjoy exploring a wonderful selection of local gardens in and around the О̄torohanga District. It’s a perfect way to enjoy spring blooms, gather inspiration, and support a great community event.

🌿 What’s a Garden Ramble? 🌸

It’s a chance to explore! When you buy a Garden & Shed Ramble ticket, you’ll get a map showing all the beautiful gardens and men’s sheds that are open for the weekend. 🚗

You can make your own way around — visit them all, or just a few — in whichever order you like, over one day or both days. Take your time, enjoy the views, get inspired, and chat with the lovely locals who’ve opened their gates. 💚

This award means so much to our team and community, Papakāinga Homestead was thoughtfully designed to feel like home, supporting connection, comfort, and dignity for those living with dementia.

Excellence in Care Awards FINALIST ✨ Excellence in Design - Papakāinga Homestead

We’re proud to share that Papakāinga Homestead (our Dementia Care facility) has been named a finalist in the Excellence in Design category of the New Zealand Aged Care Association - ACA Excellence in Care Awards 2025.

These national awards recognise care facilities that are at the top of their game, making the most of opportunities, implementing innovations, and continually improving services for residents.

Papakāinga Homestead, designed by architectural designer, Glen Brownlee of Environs Architecture-Landscape, officially opened in July 2021.

This video, filmed just before opening - beautifully showcases the design and layout. The gardens have flourished in the four years since, adding even more warmth and character to the space our dementia residents now call home. 🌸

The winners will be announced at the ACA awards ceremony to be held this Thursday in Christchurch/Ōtautahi.

If you’ve got an abundant veggie patch and have extra produce to spare over the coming seasons, we’d love to gratefully receive donations of fresh vegetables for our kitchen here at Beattie Home & Hospital.

Homegrown goodness helps us create nutritious, seasonal meals for our residents.

📍Donations can be dropped off at our Reception during office hours (8:30am - 4:30pm).
