Discover the power of relaxation with this pose... it can help lower blood pressure, and if yours is already low, savasana is an excellent alternative. Join us at Oxford Gym on Wednesdays to share time and space.

During my study today I came across a quote by the Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Max Planck - "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change". This is so true of the problem/niggles that crop up during our daily lives, and certainly in our Yoga practice. This week my intention is to embrace the niyama of Santosa - a spirit of contentment, optimism and acceptance in my approach to work, to life, and my yoga practice.
Santosa encourages honesty with yourself, about what you can ask of your body on any day, choosing an optimistic mindset of the benefits to be gained from modified poses, accepting our limitations and leaving self-judgment at the door (or i the case of Yoga in the park, in the car :))
5.45 pm Monday 10th Feb. Please remember your mat, a towel or rug, water, insect repellent and a grateful, optimistic heart and mind ☀️🙏

I’m coming back to my teaching 🙏. I’ve had some enforced time away with health issues, which, as always in life, has had the silver lining of gifting me time and space to reset and research.
I will continue to be gentle with myself, but interestingly, it now includes working hard at building strength 😁
As I build strength in my body, the benefits of which I’ll go into another day, I’m also creating changes in my brain. When I’m lifting heavy weights I’m teaching my brain I am strong, I am capable.
Your brain believes everything you tell it. And it feeds that back to your body.
As your brain and your body strengthen, when you keep balance with meditative practices, your spirit strengthens too.
All can be beautifully connected, enhancing our experience of life.
We just need to begin.
If you’re unsure how, get in touch.
Namaste, Sally 🙏

PSOAS

Is the only muscle that attaches from the lower back to the leg. Craniosacral focuses on the psoas for many reasons: A tight psoas not only creates structural problems, it also constricts the organs, puts pressure on nerves, interferes with the movement of fluids, and impairs diaphragmatic breathing.

In fact - “The psoas is so intimately involved in such basic physical and emotional reactions, that a chronically tightened psoas continually signals your body that you’re in danger, eventually exhausting the adrenal glands and depleting the immune system”.

In case you were in any doubt - "sleep is not an optional lifestyle luxury" - Matt Walker.

The results of the studies they have been doing into how a lack of sleep affects our bodies are staggering - please, take a few minutes to watch and listen to this TED talk on sleep - and then try harder to get some :)

I love the wisdom and essence of this blog. And who doesnt love Judi Dench's work :)

"Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, as they won’t last the journey.

Your sense of humour though, will only get better with age.

Your intuition will grow and expand like a majestic cloak of wisdom.

Your ability to choose your battles, will be fine-tuned to perfection.

Your capacity for stillness, for living in the moment, will blossom.

Your desire to live each and every moment will transcend all other wants.

Your instinct for knowing what (and who) is worth your time, will grow and flourish like ivy on a castle wall.

Don’t prioritise your looks my friend,
they will change forevermore, that pursuit is one of much sadness and disappointment.

Prioritise the uniqueness that make you you, and the invisible magnet that draws in other like-minded souls to dance in your orbit.

These are the things which will only get better."
